cabinets above FL

We are looking at adding more cabinets in our laundry. Right now we have two 30" tall cabinets the builder put in above the washer/dryer and a whole empty wall above the counter in the laundry.

We could really use a lot more storage and I wonder if any of you can think of any drawback to changing out the 30" x 12" deep cabinets above the w/d to 24" deep cabinets - we could buy just the regular stock above refrigerator cabinets for that and stack 2 since they are 24" tall. This would give us a lot more storage and make the lowest shelf at the same height as now, but out further so less reaching across the w/d for laundry supplies.

We do have front loading machines and right now the only draw back I could see is if we had a top loader.
