New (small) Kitchen 85% complete (pic)

We are now waiting for the electrician (should be here in the next day or two) Then the silestone countertops. Delivery date up to 12 weeks. Then the backsplash.

My DH is the primary cook. We have tried to design the kitchen with his cooking habits in mind. He is a wonderful cook but man does he make a big mess!!! Ease of cleanup played a big part in the design. DH is really bad at slopping tomato sauce and spilling red wine.

We are making progress. One of our Boxers "Mr. Baxter" is checking out the new kitchen.

What a pretty kitchen! I can't wait to see it with the countertops in!
If you don't mind sharing, what brand and colors are your cabinets? I love them!

bellcrest-looks fabulous. Very nice choices. Bright, airy and spacious. Is this a DIY? I saved the exact same backsplash as my inspiration too! We are DIYing our kitchen and I will be so happy to get the stove away from being in the corner.

Your pulls look like what I am looking for. No knobs. I now have all knobs and when I am at the sink and go to move, they can pull your pants off....LOL Can I inquire where you purchased the pulls?

Really looking forward to the completed kitchen.

Very nice! Can't wait to see it finished! You must be excited going from the older white cabinets to your new ones. That's what we're doing and I can't wait!

Wow- good job so far! That old kitchen seems almost criminal- how could anyone have designed it like that? (AM hoping and assuming it wasn't you! :>)

    Like the BS choice too!

No more posting kitchens without details! I think you have done an amazing job. I really like the floor too. Is it vinyl? Details, girl! I love a nice, compact workspace and you have what seems like a very workable one. Your DH cannot make too big of a mess as he has just steps to move in, which is how I like to work too. What a massive improvement over the old space. You really did a nice job maximizing counter space and storage. Don't forget to keep us updated on progress. Again, congrats!

I'm with footballmom - we like details! You kitchen is very nice! Everything is beautiful! Why 12 weeks for the Silestone? That seems like a long time.

Mr. Baxter is gorgeous!! I love Boxers :)

Thanks for the nice comments on my new kitchen and Mr Baxter!!

Details?? You want details, well lets see. You may get more details than you want. LOL!

I got quotes from 3 places. 2 Custom Cabinet places and HD. WE do not have a Lowes here. We went with HD not only for price but because when I told the KD at these places my budget, I got definite different reactions. At one of the custom places I actually felt like the KD was looking down his nose at me.

My experience with HD has been nothing but positive. The KD there has thought of all the answers before I even asked the questions. I learned lots from this site and when I went with questions she was always a step ahead of me.

My budget was (operative word) $20,000. It looks like we will finish up around $23,000 or there abouts, not counting the brand new Paderno pots and pans I bought for DH.

Cabinets are Thomasville Maple Spice stain. Drawers are blumotion. All lower cabinets have pull out shelves. Pullout oil/spice thingy next to stove. Pull out trash can. Pots and pans drawers in small island next to dishwasher. Cabinet pulls are quite inexpensive ($2.97 ea) from HD. Floor is Dupont laminate in Tuscan Stone Bronze. I love the floor. Sink is large one bowl Blanco, faucet and soap dispenser are Moen. All in SS.

Budget includes all new appliances GE Profile FD fridge, stove and OTR Microwave, and a Maytag dishwasher (recommended by daughter and friend. I have never had a dishwasher before.
To get to this stage there were many concessions. Everything costs so much, There were splurges and things I had to give up. One of the splurges being my Silestone countertops.

We did not change the light fixtures as they were fairly new. They can be change in future if we choose. We are changing the fan over the table (table missing in photos as it is being refinished)
I know my budget and kitchen are small compared to some I see on here but to me it is a dream that I have waited for many years. In 1974 we lost our home in a fire. We had this house built quickly and have been using hand me down pots and pans and dishes ever since. It has taken a lot of years to save up for this reno. Now it is time for all new. I am enjoying this so much.

Your kitchen becomes even more beautiful when the story of how it came to be is revealed. Enjoy, you have done so much on what some might consider a modest budget. I think even if you come in just slightly over you should post to the $20,000 and under kitchen thread. Your kitchen will be an inspiration.

WOW! What a pretty kitchen! Whould you mind sharing info on your backsplash?

    Shirley,
What a pleasure of a kitchen your DH! So much more counter space and 'elbow room'-lol. The cabinets and other finishes are very attractive. Enjoy!
