Does this work? Need to decide quickly

OK, so I really want an area rug in my living room and one just popped up on craigslist that's a really good price BUT I don't know if it goes in my space. At this price it'll sell quickly so I need to decide asap.

I snapped these pix just now with my phone, please pardon the junk on the coffee table, didn't want to fuss around with stuff and miss the rug.

Here's the slightly messy living room. Floors are golden oak, sofa is old style dark wood with slipcovered cushions in a coarse textured canvas-y fabric, a pale golden tan, curtains are black and Felicite Noir (waverly). Accents are the dark, slightly warm red, in the curtains.

The rug in question is here:

The rug is very neutral. Is this what you want? It looks like it would match just fine (it would match lighter tones in your drapes, the lamp shade, etc.)...

If you end up not liking it, you could always resell it on CL, right? :)

I'm not particularly fond of that rug. It doesn't lay on the floor very well and it doesnt seem like it would add much to your room. I say pass this one up...maybe look for something with blue in it?

I actually prefer the rug that you already have although it's a little small for your room. It may be just my monitor but the CL rug looks pretty gold in one pic and almost peachy in the other whereas your sofa and walls look more taupe to me...(?) Although they are all neutral, I'd be afraid they'd fight with one another. I like a medium to darker rug in your room.

I know how tempting it is when you find a great deal though! Could you take one of your sofa cushions and a paint sample (along with your $40) to go look at the rug?

She hasn't called me back yet, but I'm tempted to get it anyway.

I've seen sisal rugs that were "color washed" with a little latex paint in a decent amount of paint glaze and they were just beautiful. I'm thinking a medium green, similar to whats in the curtains? It's a translucent effect with all the glaze so the gold would still show through.

I agree with treasuretheday though, I will def take the cushions along because until I can get around to doing the paint technique, probably another month or two based on weather, I'd better like it the way it is.

I dream of a high low luxury shag in a medium gold/green but my budget just isn't there. I mean, look at my craigslist furniture and home made cushion covers. :)

I know the room is messy, by the way, but any other than picking up, any suggestions? I did this with about $200 to my name, so it's all pulled together from what I had or craigslist bargains.

The wall color is very warm, but neutral. It's not quite gold but it's as close to gold as I could get without the yellow.

The pillows need slip covers but I hadn't done them yet. I was going to do them to match the cushions, but that's too blah. So then I thought about buying another curtain panel, but that's almost too matchy/matchy. I decided to wait and see if I could find a rug first(much harder to find a bargain rug than fabric for pillow covers).

The room is super tiny. I hated doing that huge cabinet but that tv is a very nice one, and I already had it, and I couldn't buy a flat panel so there ya go. I like that the doors close because it's not on a lot of time.

I also thought about doing the inside of the tv cabinet in a pretty color (it cheap crappy pressed "oak", I painted the exterior black) but again was waiting on the rug to choose. I want more red than green but not so much red that it's too much. I've got the large red mirror, the red lampshade and the red in the curtains. I'm afraid of doing too much more, maybe one thing, but not much more.

There's this one .... but it's light and I have small kids.

I guess the other one is light too though, at least this has a pattern.

    Here are your room pics:

Your first one is too big to post; if you resize it in photobucket and follow the linked directions it will tell you how to post your pics here (just copy the html link and paste into your message)

    better wall color:

If you put the link to your craigslist finds in the space below the message where it says optional link, then name it something like Rug from CL, people can click directly on it (until the CL listing ends, then it will disappear.

Oh and the second rug looks nice - great price, too! You've done a wonderful job, esp working on a tight budget. Love the wall color.

Here is a link that might be useful: posting pictures

Sorry, I don't know why the pics won't show - they were there when I previewed them. Maybe you can follow the directions and post them yourself; makes it easier for folks to make suggestions if they can see the photos.

I can't see the pix, either...

I think I would prefer a patterned rug with a dark background. I also think the sisal doesn't look like it is laying properly.
I know it might just be me, but I would wonder why they were selling the rug. Hopefully no pet stains.

Yeah, I tried posting pix the "right" way first but I got the same result as your post, that's why I just did the links.
