It looks similar, but rock names are notoriously mixed up in the trade, so it's best not to go off the name anyway. Whatever you do, get a sample and run through the diagnostics for marble vs quartzite (if you search you'll find one of the geology threads here).

Thanks! I've already decided against marble because it just seems too delicate. Yes, the names are maddening- it seems one slab can be called five or six different other names somewhere else. Ugh!

Did you get to see Monc Blanc? Can you get a sample of it? If so, you may be well on your way to figuring it out.

Yes, I've seen Mont Blanc at my local stone yard and it's very pretty. However, it has a lot of gray in it. They didn't have any samples. Ugh! The macabus pictures all seem to look much whiter, which is what I want but don't know if it's available in my area. My stone yard is out of it. :(

Over the month I was checking out 4-5 stores, I saw Macabus with horizontal lines, then cross-cut, then yellow, and blue.

In hindsight, I should have had one good contact person at each store, and called them weekly to see what came in. Taj Mahal was another name given to many quartzites that varied in color and quality.

Having a contact person is a super good idea, I like that Bookworm. VADawg, sounds like you need to keep looking, or wait to see what else comes in. Have you called around to other stone yards?
