Foyer table help

Happy Friday to everyone! I posted a picture of my foyer a couple months ago and got a lot of great feedback on the lamp I had previously picked. I exchanged it and found this one. I like the style of the lamp, but now feel I need to change the accessories to give some more color.

And I really would like to find something to put underneath the table. Once this area is done, I'll be looking for a chair to put across from the table. Thanks again for all your help.

Sorry for the poor lighting - cell phone pic

Here is another set of lamps I was considering as well. Purchasing 2, one for each side of the table.

    Here's the lamp from Kirkland:

Sorry, I have no advice but it is very pretty and 36 inches tall.

Ok, others may disagree,(I'm no expert) but i think you need a lamp made from a different material. I think the iron of the lamps are too matchy matchy for the table. It would be much more interesting to have something else. Maybe pottery or ceramic?

Everything you have on the table is the same color including the mirror. Even if you purchase the new lamps, they look to be a similar color as well. I think you just need some different textures.

Maybe some of the talented people on here can post some photos for you!

A bushy plant under the table would look nice.

    You have a great beginning!

Thanks for the pic Chris. Dawn, you are definitely right about the colors, it is very brown and neutral. Oceana was great help last time with pics and suggestions and I believe that was the prior suggestion for a different material for the lamp. I haven't come across anything yet that I really like. Everything seems to be metal or carved wood. Or clear glass. I seem to be drawn to the same style, hence the matching with the table.

Here is one from pier 1 I was looking at that might be better

I need to find something pretty affordable and am looking at kirklands, jcpennys, macys, pier 1 etc. I went into a local lamp store and went into sticker shock. $350 and up, beautiful but yikes!

I agree with dawnp. I think a lamp with a black shade would add some drama, then some greenery and perhaps a small photo frame, woven basket for below the table and entry rug. Put up a painting across from the mirror so that it is reflected in the mirror. Collectively these will all add texture and color. You're off to a great start!

I agree that you need some color so go to Home Goods and find a lamp with color and no iron and then get a basket type of greenery that bursts out of the basket or even trails to place on the right. Actually you could probably use the lamp you bought and just add the greenery that is in a textured type container and leave it at that.

I think that Pier One lamp is much more interesting! I like it! The other thing you could do is get a solid lamp with a large patterned shade.
Add a trailing or bursting plant the base of the lamp as YaYagal suggested.

Remove the center bowl. Leave the candlesticks, add a picture frame(maybe raised up on a couple of small books) in front of the candlesticks.

Chris, can you please post the website for that lamp.

Angel, I love the lamp Chris posted for your table.

Cliff_and_joann, you can find that lamp at kirklands, you can find the link in my original post.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. For the last 2 days, I've been looking at the lamp. I really like the lamp. Maybe if I add the plant and a picture frame or something else with color it could still work? I'm also going to take a better picture as the other one is so dark. Thanks again everyone!

Here is another pic, I figured this angle shows the railing which is also... surprise..metal! The railing is not completed yet. Ugh, I definitely need a chair in my foyer with some texture.

And a closeup of the mirror as well

You obviously like the iron elements since you have it in the staircase, table and lamp. Keep them then....

I would add a (real) houseplant to that table. In your first photo, I would take out the potpourri bowl entirely and put the plant to the left of the candlesticks. (I would pick a plant & container that was about half the height of the candlesticks. Something like ivy that would have some trailing arms to mimmick the shapes in your ironwork.)

I think the green in the plant would complement the earth-tones you already have in that room. The plant pot/container could always be a colorful one if you want.

If that is all you add, I don't think you _need_ anything under the table. What did you have in mind, though? Do you use this table functionally for anything (shoes, keys, etc?) Or, is whatever you put under just to visually give that space more balance?

I just saw this blog online regarding accessorizing a console table. Maybe it will be helpful.

Here is a link that might be useful: Console Table accessorizing

Thanks for the info lolauren. We don't use the space for anything functional, we have a hall closet for all the shoes and coats right down the hallway, keys, mail and such goes on the kitchen desk.

I was thinking about something underneath to hide the wire from the table as well as to try and balance the room a bit. I may look to replace the table in the future.

What do you think about candles for the candlesticks. What size should I get and should one for slightly shorter than the other? I'll find a plant in the next couple days and post an updated pic.

thanks again for all the help.

I really like this mirror, could you please let me know where you purchased it?

If you want to add color - get some hardback books and cover them in a pretty paper or wallpaper. Or maybe even find some old leatherbound ones on ebay just for the texture.
Don't forget you can always paint, paper or put a fabric on whatever lampshade you find.
A pretty faux orchid would look nice too - actually you could easily make your own arrangement and use the pot on my table for it! Add some stones, moss and a faux orchid and your done.
