the ever helpful pig

when i get my tractor out, lilly and arnold and porkahontas head for the far end of the pig pen. harley doesn't mind it, he isn't a bit scared of the big green monster and he always wants to be right in the middle of my work.

does this straw make ma butt look big?

he is SUCH a character!! always talking, always following me everywhere i go, always bumping my ankle begging for a cookie.

Anyone named "Harley" has to be brave right? Always love your stories and pictures, Ninapearl.

Those critters are a lot of work for you, Ninapearl! They are lucky to have a loving master (or are they the masters/).

Piggies on the prowl. I love it!! They are a lucky bunch!

with pigs, the human has to be the "master". they are unbelievable strong and when snouts meet ankles, ankles suffer bruises! arnold was a terrible ankle rooter when he was a baby and even then, it hurt. and smart...when i tell you pigs are smarter than dogs, i am not kidding!!! they never forget anything so lessons have to be gentle but also forceful.

they really aren't that much work for me. they are extremely clean animals, they pick one or two spots to do their business so cleaning up after them is a snap.

even though they are easy to care for, they aren't for everybody. pigs can live into their 20s so it is a commitment not to be made lightly. they are fun, humorous and really very affectionate. :)

Helpful Harley, LOL! Can you train those piggies to hunt for truffles? Maybe they could make you some big $! Hmmm...I wonder if truffles are strictly a European thing, or if we have them here in the states...going to go check that out right now!

haha!! i don't know if we have truffles but i have been trying to figure out a way to train them to find morel mushrooms. at $30/lb, i could retire!!

Oh my gosh, nina, morels are the best! And yes, they come at a premium! Maybe you could order spores, and train the piggies to the scent...if they can hunt cheerios, they can hunt morels. You'd be rolling in dough!

Reminds me...once, I was lucky enough to have a bunch come up next to my garage where a lot of old fire wood had been stored...I had the BEST morel and cream sauce lasagna ever! There is nothing like them.

Anyway, thanks for posting pics of the porkers...they make me happy. : )
