For a coastal look, common colors would be Blue (like the sky, Yellow like the sun, sand , like beach sand, fog, so varying colors of gray and driftwood colors. A sunset can have shades of pink.

You'll have to consider the colors of current furniture or if you're buying new, then furniture comes first, then paint colors.

For inspiration, go to Houzz "photos" and type "coastal" in a search for some rooms.

Thanks Judy, appreciate it. I have an understanding about the colors I need BUT it is tough to pick the best "blue" or "sand color". Maybe the chocolate brown won't work in there after all but I love a chocolate brown room:)! I honestly would love for someone to say ok, you need this Benj Moore blue paint # and this sand color #. I just don't have a clue but know many have their favorite colors and would love to know them. Thanks again! Let me know if have anymore thoughts.

I have used BM sweet bluette and Jet stream ( both are better for a "fresh" look). I have also used ellen Kinnon paint color called Alexandria blue ( a very soft blue) (available online). My favorite "sand" color is BM shaker beige. I have found it to be a bit dark in the rooms I had, so I had it mixed to 50% of the value. Your paint store will know what that means. I have used BM creme fraiche for a yellow.

The BM historic colors are good if you want a more "dull" color, instead of a bright.

I did one bedroom with beadboard 2/3 up the wall ( painted white) with a plate rail at the top. above the beadboard I used BM shaker beige at 1/2 the value. The headboard is black iron. Black accents really work with the Shaker beige color.

Check out some of your favorite coastal photos here on houzz, some have "tags" that tell the paint color they used. Just keep in mind to test in your room, as they can look different in different light.
