Input on Bedroom project

I purchased a number of pieces of furniture yesterday including a large rosewood dresser for my bedroom. I absoutely fell in love with it.. waited a few days and returned to see it and loved it every bit as much. I don't have a picture of the piece I bought but it is in the same line as the chest below. It is a little shorter and much wider (60w x 48h). 4 small drawers across the top with round iron handles with a flower motif. The bottom 5 drawers have the same rustic iron handles as this chest (which I may purchase also..but I am a little scared that two pieces will make the room too heavy)

I will need to purchase a mirror for over the dresser and probably a full length mirror.

This is a picture of the room.. clearly I need to remove the rest of the wallpaper and paint. I am not usually a blue person but I am picturing either a smokey lavender or a turquoise blue-green.

My plan is to either get an iron bed or to keep just my frame and put some sort of architectual ironwork over the head of the bed to serve as a faux headboard. I'd like to keep the rest of the furniture and decor "light". I am thinking of a simple bedside table like this inexpensive one from pier 1

And then I will fem it up with vases of flowers, light flowy curtains an antique dress form and possibly a plantation chair.

I have a number of duvets and quilts mostly in greens but I purchased the quilt below before I bought the dresser. It might work great.. but I am open to buying something else since I ordered only the quilt. I think I definitely need something simple, light and pretty.. but it has to be dog friendly also.

So where do YOU see this room going? Do you have suggestions for mirrors? I don't really have any limitations but I do want to keep the room pretty despite the weight of the chest. I was thinking of an iron chandelier but the ceilings are not all that high and light fixture isn't where I'd put a bed. Perhaps a canopy iron bed? I wish I had a picture of the chest I bought because I think it has a lot of character and feminine detail.. I will take a picture of it once it is delivered.

Your chest is lovely (really would like to see some of the other pieces in that line for a chest for my dining room). Anyway -- to your room.
I think your quilt is beautiful and I don't see any reason why you can't work your colors around it. I like your idea of doing a ironwork faux headboard.
I feel that the light metal/glass tables might be too light weight and contemporary for your quilt and the rest of the furniture, especially if you do a ironwork headboard.
I think your colors and that pretty quilt and the right chandelier are all you need to keep the room feminine.
There are many mega- millions of mirrors on the internet to give you a feel for what might appeal to your sense of taste. Bamboo might work or maybe black painted mirror frames.
I'm anxious to see all your furniture in the room together. BTW: what's a plantation chair?

I love your quilt! I like all of your choices. I am trying to picture the chest and I'm having trouble. I like the idea of a plantation chair (I'm picturing a British colonial type, is that what you meant?). I'm seeing the blue green walls rather than the lavender, but that's because the quilt and the plantation chair both said turquoise to me more than lavender.

I like those side tables, but I think you need to figure out what you're doing with the bed first. In other words, if you leave it wood that's one thing but if you add the iron, it might not work. not sure, but it could be a bit too much. It might be hard to balance those tables out with the weight of the plantation chair and the dresser, but then, sometimes juxtapositions like that look wonderful.

the bed decision will probably be the biggest factor. Are you picturing a cottagey kind of iron bed or a heavier kind of iron bed?

I love the look you're putting together and can't wait to see everything you choose.

I would really like to see blue/green on the walls..pretty please ;) Another way to soften the room would be to drape a pretty table cloth over the bedside table, that goes to the floor. It would neutralize that piece of furniture and you'd be able to change colors as you like. Otherwise it sounds like you know what you like and I think it will come together for you. Love the Idea of the plantation chair!

Thank you all so much.. I am thrilled and scared ha! I just got off the phone with my mom and she is excited for me too. She can picture exactly where I am going with the room-- perhaps better than I can. I'll be honest, I woke up this morning in a panic-- WHAT HAVE I DONE?? I bought a lot of pieces none of which "go together".. but that's my style.

Annie.. ALL the pieces from this company are beautiful. They have some jaw dropping dining pieces. I am also looking to pick up a buffet style piece for my living room. They are hard to find online.. this is the only place I've seen them online. It looks like they have the full catalog pictured (except my piece-- which also is not in the catalog). I don't know anything about this online store so I share only for a representation of the lines.

I've provided a link to the company below. They can point you to a retailer in your area. I paid about 1400 for my dresser and that was a sale price. I have no idea how that compares to the normal selling prices. I was quoted 1200 for the chest pictured in my original post. The pieces are HEAVY so I would buy them locally if you can.

I agree that the chest is screaming for a turquoise blue green. I liked the idea of a steely lavender but the chest isn't having it! It is only by chance (fate) that I had bought the quilt that fit that color scheme.

As for a bed, I would not do a heavy iron. I tend to get claustraphobic so I actually prefer not having a headboard/footboard. I just thought it was time I got a little more grown up. I really like the idea of some sort of iron piece-- be it wall art or an iron gate. My only fear is securing it so it doesn't fall off and squish my head ha. I have also been thinking about a simple canopy bed with linen panels.. but i think I may be going more for a feeling than a reality.

I really do think fate has a hand in this... as I was really inspired by the haint blue post as well. I love the idea of a blue fending off bad spirits.

I am not sure the pier 1 tables will do the trick either but at $70 I thought it might be worth a try. What I really picture is a garden type table. My decor tends towards flora and fauna so I think I can pull it off.

I LOVE that quilt! I would find a color on it and use it as a wall color but maybe at 50%. I love the idea of staying light on the walls with white on the woodwork.

whoa that was a long post-- my apologies. For those who can't picture a plantation chair, here is a picture..

I love the quilt and shams, etc., In fact, I have them also! I bought mine not long ago at Pottery Barn.

My walls are a green, basically one of the greens in the quilt. If they weren't already that color, I would go with the blueish green.

that's exactly how I pictured it. those chairs are soo comfy and they are beautiful to boot! sounds like you're doing the plantation thing with the canopy as well, like the mosquito draping over the beds. like the crisp white you're talking about with the whole thing, too.

I think you hit on a possibility when you said you envisioned a garden-type bedside table. I think you might be right on there! Check the garden sites, garden catalogs, etc. You can always spray paint them to your color choice and check out local antique and flea markets for garden tables. I understand what you mean about the headboard architecture. I still think that no matter how large or small and decorative it is, if it's ironwork it will influence the rest of the room and the little Pier One tables won't work in my opinion. I adore that plantation chair! (could not sit in it myself, however.) I need to sit upright and have good back support - have you considered that. It looks like it needs to have an ottoman to put your legs up for comfort if you're going to be sitting in it. Thanks for the link. I'm going to check it out.

I have been looking online for an old iron base table.. only found a few that are high enough and none that are in the price range I'd like. I think I am going to have to wait for flea market season.

I have been planning a weekend get away with my sisters to New Hope/Bucks County, PA where there are lots of antique and garden shops. Perhaps I'll find something on our trip.

Thanks for all the input and encouragement!

I keep picturing a wrought iron canopy bed.. but it has to be the right one. There's one at PB that seems like it would work but I'd like to compare against others. My searches are returning beds but not much that fits my vision.

Before I spend much more time on this-- are there issues I should consider with a canopy bed? I know the picture of my room leaves a lot to be desired but does it suggest canopy bed to you? I think I am looking for confirmation because I am not sure if it is part of my vision.. or if it is leftover longing for a canopy bed from my childhood.

BTW I am going to repurpose a small cabinet I already have for a nightstand. I did picture a round table but I think with a little work the cabinet will be great. It's a very dark wood and is currently painted a yellow sage. I am thinking of doing some other type of paint treatment to it. It needs hardware so I'll look for something to mimic the hardware on the dresser.
