I have SW Steely gray in serveral rooms in my home. Sometimes it looks blue, sometimes it looks gray. Here it is. It might be a little more blue than your inspiration color.:

That is a pretty gray. Is there a contact email on the blog you saw this on? I email people on blogs all the time when I see something I'd like to get or replicate.

I love that gray, love the photo, but I think it only works because there's a lot more white than gray in the photo. I'd be curious to know what the whole room looks like. If it's a foyer with several door openings or a room with multiple of those white niches then I think it would be great, but I'm not sure I'd like a room with large wall expanses painted that color. JMHO. If your DR has wainscoting and crown I think it would be great, however. Esp. if your table is the same finish as that console and your lighting fixture matches that finish, it would be very easy to replicate. I love the color combinations. DH has our fandeck at our other house so I can't help find the color. :-(

I'd love to know the color, too. It would be good for our library and/or bedroom. What blog did you find it on, vavavoom?

I wish i could remember! I tend to just surf and pull jpegs of things i like for later use. I'm gong to look around and see if i can find it on any of the blogs i tend to go to.

My DR does not have wainscoting, but there is a chair rail and crown, so i figured, i could do a lot of white.

So I tried to match this color at Porter Paints (which I think is only available in certain areas of the South and is the brand our painter is using) and it came out really blue. Ugh! On to round 2 of samples!

Looking at my BM fandeck (in the strong western light, so who knows how that is skewing it), I think Grey, Dior Grey or Whale Grey are the closest. F&B Down Pipe is also a possibility.

Are you in love with that picture or do you actually have a plan that will work with that color, such as a home with lots of paneling painted white and little wispy areas to paint that color, and furniture upholstered in colors that will just not work with anything else.

Ugh, I fell into the grey trap years ago (about the same color of grey) when I was trying to decide whether to upgrade and refurbish or just buy another house. Realtor took me to the grey house I fell in love with.

I decided just to redo my house to be the grey house. I found after painting all the walls in my DR and living room and foyer, that the only thing that looked good in my house in gray was the foyer and with the furniture and upholstery I liked in the LR and DR, that had to go. That grey just did not work with my Chippendale tables or Queen Ann DR set.

I had marble foyer and lots of white molding and woodwork stuff in foyer but I still ended up putting grass cloth over the grey of the foyer, DR and LR. Furnishings that went with gray just did not go with my style.

So I ended up with greige and cinnamon grasscloth wallcovering and furniture that I loved. I even put a black oriental table in the foyer and never worried about the gray again.

My house was now much prettier than the grey house. O, if only the grey house lady could have seen my house, she would have put grasscloth everywhere and begged for my Oriental painting of magnolias, brass chinese hope/faith/charity letters, my satsuma vase and umbrella stand, the pagoda lamp shade on the black oriental table.

i have BM taos taupe and it looks similar - in some light it looks more brown, in some other light it looks more gray.

i also used pittsburg paint granite in another room and it's similar to taos taupe but a bit darker. it reads brown on the paint chip, but on the wall it looks brown/gray again depending on the lighting.

fwiw, i have orangy oak trims and i love these 2 colors with the trims. i like white trims better but not going to paint them!

My house is painted Chelsea Grey, which is very close to that color (depending on the light used to photograph it). It would be worth checking out, although it's pretty dark (as is the wall in that photo). It's a really perfect color, though (as a lot of the historic CM colors are!).

I was actually looking at the Chelsea Gray tonight. I think I am going to get a sample. Would you say it is a warm or cool gray? and does it have any undertones?

It's warm. It looks a lot like the way wood houses age in new england-- kind of grey, kind of brown. It's really pretty and similar to the photo. It's also dark! But they could make it 75% or something. It's very "homey" for a grey.
