Pool Remodel Project is DONE!!!

Finally, after 2 1/2 months of remodel renovations we are done, except for bar stools. We choose Tahoe Blue pebble tec, noche travertine coping, tumbled marble pavers, Luv tile piriti black (on a diagonal), keywest gold granite, Firemagic grill and stove, chardonnay drystack ledgestone for the bar and columns. This forum was a tremedous help...thanks again to all!

Great job! Very classy and elegant design. I love the deck. What type of material is it (tumbled marble)? What a transformation. I also love the outside kitchen and that nice flat screen over the door. I bet you are going to have some great parties out there now!

They called it tumbled marble, but I think it is also referred to as travertine. The coping is travertine and is a solid color. The pavers are beautiful, they are swirled and mottled shades of brown and tans.

OMG...how nice. I love the transformation!!!

Wow, this looks fantastic. I love how your tile matches the stone in your outdoor kitchen...you did a great job picking everything out! Thanks for posting pics! :)

Thanks, we are pretty happy. I am trying to give back to the forum what I have taken over the last few months. Its fun to see the finished projects. It actually looks much prettier in person...the camera really doesnt capture the true colors.

It is so pretty. I am always envious of those of you in parts of the county where your pools can be an outdoor room, or extension of your house in a way that is much more difficult for us in the NE. Very lovely!

Absolutely MAH-VA-LOUS! You have truly managed to create an outdoor oasis. Your pavers are beautiful. I was following your progression but can't remember if you sealed the pavers or does one of the pictures show them wet? If you sealed them, what did you use? Again great job!

gk: your project came out beautiful, really like the deck, coping and the look of the water. The outdoor kitchen is too nice as it has just given me an idea for my next project...lol! My landscape is going in Monday-Wednesday and my pebbletec at the end of the week. I am in the home stretch and can't wait for all the construction to be over. I am interested in knowing who did your pool and outdoor kitchen. I know that you are in FL, as I live in Ft Laud. You can post the information or send me a private email. Thanks...really beautiful job, I am sure that you are thrilled.

We did seal our pavers with a non-slippery product that enhances the color. Its called StoneTech Enhancer Pro. It was pretty expensive, $200 a gallon. However, we think it needs it again, at least in the sunny uncovered areas. We plan to redo those areas in the fall. I wet the deck down for the pictures so the color would look more true.....the camera was not taking a good picture, lighting must be reflecting off of the windows and pool. The bottom pic of the waterfall is not wet down. That was taken a few weeks ago and the stone was more enhanced.

We live in northern Pinellas County. A local one man band did our tile, coping, pavers, waterfall and stone work on the bar. A local grill store did the outdoor kitchen. We had our tile guy do the stone work on the kitchen because he was also doing the columns and I wanted it all to match. I dont want to post his name, without asking. I can email you his info but I dont think he would travel that far, he is pretty busy just working locally. He does great work, at a reasonable price, but he works at his own pace. I feel like this project was in the home stretch forever. We are very happy with the work....few bumps in building the outdoor kitchen. At first it was too high for my liking. Its a mute point now, though I still wish the working area was 3 inches lower. Thanks for the positive posts:)

Lovely! What a transformation! From blah to beautiful! Congratulations!
I think I remember that you had concerns about the evenness of your PebbleTec. Hopefully you are happy with it now?

Yes if you are referring to the mottling. After the acid wash they started filling. The shallow area had some mottled areas that appeared as it dried after the acid wash but before the fill water reached that area. Once filled and balanced you can not notice anything on the bottom of the pool. There are two small areas.....one on the top step the other on the bench......that you see more cream or plaster than pebbles....the return lines shoot in those directions making it impossible to notice when the pool is running. I try not to look at those areas between 5 pm (when the pool shuts off and dusk:) Probably noone who comes to our house will ever notice it but me....its not awful, upset me when it happened but a neighbor said it normal. When the kids go back to school I do have to call our Pebble Tec installer so I will see if they can "make it better". Thanks again!

Cindy - it's just beautiful! Love the outdoor kitchen/bcue area. Nice touch on the tv! I know you were concerend on the height of the work surface, but it looks great! Very 1st class. I love your waterline tile and travertine pavers. Have you been able to sit back and enjoy it yet??? What an improvement over the mauve tiles before! I spent some time adding flowers and ground cover to a few bare spots this weekend - it sure was nice to have the pool to cool off in. Any more projects in the works? I put the slider and exterior painting on hold until the spring. Enjoy!!!!!!

First thing that comes to mind is WOW! Everything turned out great! Love & am so jealous of your outdoor kitchen. Great job!

Thats wierd, I posted a response around 5 pm and it didnt show......I was so afraid with all the hype on the "LOGO" thread that the people I wanted to see my post would miss it.....like you beachdiva. So glad you got to see it too fauxnecian. I feel like I got to know so many people and their pools that you look forward to their finished pictures. Now all I need is bar stools and a pretty flag for the cabana boy to refill my drink! Unfortunately the inside projects are still not complete......a few more rooms to paint, still need bonus room cabinetry, more plantation shutters and one more bathroom to redo. We plan to wait until the fall to do some of these projects......the bath is going to wait, its livable. Thanks again:)

Sorry I didn't respond sooner. Was swamped last week. (That LOGO post is wild, btw. Why won't lavenderblues just stop already??) As for your project, I have outdoor kitchen envy (in a good way) - love all the materials you chose. Hopefully you're finding some time to relax and enjoy it all now. The remodel is truly beautiful!

    Christy,
I have been following jblairs posts for weeks, you hate to read stories like hers. Though I was glad to see what the actual logo looks like. Its a shame that Lavy...might as well nickname him since he is doing the same to others:)....doesnt have enough work to keep him busy...hum I wonder why. I learned its senseless to post to people like that, they thrive on attention. Afraid to write for fear of that thread taking over my pretty pool post :o
We love the outdoor kitchen, only wish there was a spot to put a plate down right next to the grill. We talked about it in February when we gave the deposit. I should have noticed it when they were building it because I could have extended the granite another 4 inches on the far side. Too late now...I noticed it 5 minutes after they left when I brought the burgers out to use the grill. We cover the stove area with a dishtowel so we dont scratch the stainless side burner cover. There is plenty of counter space, its just nice to put the plate right there. So now when you build yours remember the plate space:) We never thought we had the room for the outdoor kitchen, our lanai isnt hugh. There is a big useless area over beyond the pool steps, not sure if you can notice it from the pics. We didnt want it there because we felt it so far away from the main area which is outside our family room and kitchen. The grill guy planned the layout and he did a great job. Its funny our roof has a wierd design to it, placing the grill under the roofless area saved us money because we didnt need to purchase an expensive exhaust system. A year ago, I had been cursing that roof area about how odd it looked and in the end I was thankful it was that way. We have covers on back order to protect the grill and burner from the weather.

Your pool is just georgous. We are just beginning our second pool - we moved. Did your contractor build your water fall or is it prefabbed? It looks so real - I feel it was built. I want a waterfall but the one I was offered is prefab and over $6,000. What is your opinion on the 2 choices?

Our was built with real rock, not a prefab. Our guy did a great job. He never knows what it will look like until he goes to the rock yard and sees what they have, we had seen several of his prior works of art so we were able to tell him what we were looking for. He knew I wanted it shorter than most of them he builds....and I wanted it to fit that corner. (I really wanted a spa but the cost was crazy, so we decided on a waterfall). There was one HUGH rock he split in half to make the 2 shelf areas. He charged us $5250.00. He didnt recommend some of the prefabs, though he does install them. A friend has one and its fine, I like mine much better:) The few prefabs I saw didnt fit our space the way we wanted.

Cindy - THAT is funny! Lavy, huh??? Yeah, I don't want this thread removed. Your pics are too pretty. I really wanted to add to that post, but figured the same as you. He'll just go away eventually and he's obviously not someone you can be rational with. Thanks for the tip on the outdoor kitchen :-) When I move back east in the next few years, I'll keep it in mind for the next yard. About your burner - have you seen those hotpads that are about 8" square and made of flexible silicone? You can get them at Williams Sonoma or a local specialty kitchen store. They're safer to put the hot plates on and they'd protect your side burner when you need to use it as a counter. I use them on my granite kitchen counters all the time. Just can't break from years of training that you don't put hot things on the counter ;-) If we lived closer we could have progressive pool parties - start with the Turboritas at my house and move to yours for dinner :-)

Too bad you dont live in Florida.....or me in CA, that would be fun:) The silicone pot holders are a great idea, I will get some soon. We are flying to NJ tomorrow to visit family. What I like about your idea is that it doesnt matter if it gets wet or bakes in the sun, I can leave it on there....love it, thanks. Did you see the "Logo" thread was missing last night! Gone, that didnt take long.

    Very nice job!

gk5040 -I saw your post on the other Pebble Tec link asking if I'd seen the end result - the answer is no, somehow I never saw these pics! You posted right before we went on vacation and that is probably why. It is so amazing! You have a tropical paradise there. Love the kitchen too. I think I would move my bed out there and make it my new home if I lived there :) It is really beautiful and peaceful.

You found it....thanks meow, we are very happy with how it turned out. It actually looks prettier in person. The pictures didnt capture the right colors. It was either too sunny or not enough sun...I couldnt win. I think several of the folks were on vacation and didnt see my post. Maybe they will get a chance now:) I need to accessorize the bar area, but I havent a clue what to put on it...any ideas? It gets sun so I didnt want anything to fade and I am worried about a windy rain storm blowing anything breakable. Maybe thats unrealistic. I was going to post a question to see what others have done. Now I want to build a matching fire pit. Then I think, when would be use it, its so stinkin hot in Florida. We have only lived here a year and I cant stand the humidity...cant imagine sitting around a fire:O

I am so envious of your outdoor kitchen, your outdoor oasis, lets just say I am envious of it all. ( Ha, ha ) The finished project looks FANTASTIC! So when's the party ? :-)

We love the outdoor kitchen, that is totally new, we didnt have one before the remodel....the guy did a good job planning it, we didnt think we would be able to fit one on our deck. Now I am just waiting for the barstools. I ordered them to match the black aluminum patio table.

gk5040 - quick question on your coping - when it was installed did the installer put grout in between the pieces or are they just butted right up next to one another?

PS - your pool and back yard are just beautiful.

    Thanks.

Thanks.....No, they are not butt against each other but pretty close maybe a 1/4 inch of grout....I just measured it. He also smeared the grout over the whole piece of coping so you didnt get the "line" look because of the divets. Though the crevises in the coping were minimal. Filling the grout in made the coping look uniform. I will try to remember to take a pic of it tomorrow afternoon. Are you in NC...we moved from Charlotte last year.
