My humble opinion is ...No it would not be goofy at all, especially since each block relates to your Mom. It's a special idea and will be a labor of love...I'm sure much it will be greatly appreciated. Have fun and post a pic to the forum when you wrap up.

Using the same color sashing strips will help pull them all together. It will look just fine.

I like your idea of using various subjects for the blocks. If you haven't already, consider the option of making them different sizes. Check the layout of Bonnie Hunter's Random Ohio Stars. Just something to consider......

That would be a really good idea but I don't consider myself a skilled quilter yet. I'm worried I wouldn't fit them together right! I was already wondering how I would square up the plane. :-)

Sounds like a wonderful idea. Only thing I would want to change around is to the bigger plainer blocks around. They are clumped in your idea photo, but I realize it's just an idea. Oh, and a wonderful labor of love. She will be touched.

I think your mom will appreciate your thoughtfulness. I love the three leaf clover--she is lucky to have such a wonderful daughter!
