gift completed

I think I remember mentioning that I connected with a lady who has the same Bernina I do (well two of them actually, one for a back up)... that's what brought us together, but she actually has 16 sewing machines in total if you count the stand alone embroidery machine and sergers... she even bought the same Brother I have because I raved about it so much and loves it as much as I do... I've never met anyone who is as into machines as I am and we've been e-mailing novels back and forth about sewing and machines and life in general for the last few months.. she's sent me embroidery thread and cool applique scissors and even completed a project for me and mailed it to me when my machine was throwing tension hissy fits... Even if she'd never done any of that stuff, just the camaraderie with such a kindred spirit is so refreshing that I just had to show her my appreciation...

So, on Friday, I mailed her a project I've been working on and she got it today...

I found a really cool paper pieced sewing machine pattern, and knew she'd love it, so I did this: (most of this was just sewing or embroidering, but this is the part that relates to quilting since paper piecing is a quilting technique)

But, then, I wanted to do a bit more, that just didn't seem like enough, so I did this:

But you can't mail a letter without an envelope, and stamp, right?

So, I did this and free motioned the apple tree stamp...

Anyway, she was thrilled and touched and all that fun stuff, and I had a blast working on this project and showing my appreciation for her in this way, so I thought I'd share it with you :o) If anyone is interested in the paper pieced pattern, I'd be glad to share the think where I got it from... it is free, and it's relatively easy, but there are several sections that have to be pieced together and it can get a little tricky there... I think I made about 5 before I finally had one that was decent enough to send!

Really thoughtful and cute gift Bobby!! My embroidery machine can be a pain in the butt with tension problems sometimes too.

It's wonderful that you have found someone with the same interests as you have. I know there have to be quilters in my rural area, they are just hiding very well lol!

Thanks for the feedback... half the fun of making something is sharing it with others who are interested in the same hobby/passion!

I'm glad it was so well received by the recipient... even her husband liked it! He is just learning to quilt and part of our fun talking about that whole process..... she lives in Alabama and I live in FL, but we have just connected so well so quickly.... maybe one day we will get to meet and sew together for real!

Thanks for letting me know that Im not the only one who sometimes has machine hiccups, Rosa! Didn't you used to live in Florida? If you were still here, I'd take you to sit and sew one day!

I need to be more active here and try to "give"as much as I "take", but it's so hard t to make time for everything with two jobs!

"... half the fun of making something is sharing it with others who are interested in the same hobby/passion!"

Exactly! When I get too caught up in my job or in the daily grind, I can come to this forum and I'm always energized and inspired. Sharing what I've made helps me get fired up to find time to do more.

Thank you Bobby, I'd love to go! We moved from Longwood (close to Orlando) after retiring from AT&T.

I had not been on the forum very long and didn't realize how many members were living so close to me.

Here (close to Ft. Stewart and about 1 hour from Savannah) is farming, the famous Vidalia onions are grown here. I love being able to pick and 'put up' tomatoes in the summer.

But, I have met so few crafters! You would think the area would be crawling with them lol!!!!!

You have a huge heart Bobby, glad you're my quilting forum friend. I've met so many wonderful quilters on this forum!
