Anthropologie melon glass knobs

Has anyone used the Anthropologie melon-shaped mercury glass knobs? They are *exactly* what I want for my guest bathroom vanity, but the reviews give me pause. If you read the reviews, you will believe that they shatter willy-nilly. I'm sure the reviews are often posted by people with a bad experience. Have any of you on the forum had any experience with these knobs? If so, could you please share?

My bathroom vanity is the standard builders oak. I am painting it black. It is off a bedroom that is decorated in black and white toile. The other Anthropologie melon shaped knobs would do, but I like the over-scaled size of the mercury glass knobs. And, I'm mad for mercury glass!

I am cross-posting in kitchens.

Those are GORgeous...... I think they were put on too tight. At that price I would just buy a couple of extras. Even if they just last a couple of years they would be worth it to me. Maybe you could put some padding on the back side to absorb some of the shock of closing the doors/drawers. I love the silver! Good luck.

caminnc, I was thinking the same thing about the padding. Seems somewhere I've seen something that is the shape of a washer but is made out of paper thin cork-like material. Something Daddy had keeps coming to mind. I want to say he called it a "gasket." Unfortunately, he is no longer around to ask.

I'm torn between the silver and the gold. The picture frames in the bedroom are gold, but the faucet is chrome. I'll also be changing out the faucet and probably staying with chrome. If so, I'll buy the silver ones.

I am so glad that while I was bored yesterday, I decided to go through my "kitchen planning" bookmarks and found the link to the knobs. I'm such a magpie sometimes!

Really why should they be any different than other glass knobs? I'd get them in a heartbeat.

It's like the perfect pieces of jewelry for a little black dress, except it's for a vanity! Love em'! And if they break, have Anthropologie exchange them.

Wow are they something gorgeous or what?!

That site has the most gorgeous and unique knobs I think I've ever seen. How on earth does anyone actually decide on just one!! I love the ones you chose though, their stunning.

    they're stunning! ha!

LOL...y'all are such "enablers!" Thanks for reinforcing my new obsession. As soon as DD gets back to town from the holiday, I'm going to have her check them out and buy them. It will be at least a week before she can get home. That will give me time to get the vanity painted.

I am loving them so much- I am thinking I would get them for the cabinet doors on the vanities for my master bath, but not sure if I would use them on the drawers... what to you think? ( I am thinking that 2" diameter is beefier than what I was originally looking at.. )

I love Anthropologie. I don't have any hardware from them but their selection is awesome and so unique...I too would get them in a heartbeat and be sure to use a gasket to cushion it.

I have a couple of sets of beautiful drinking glasses from them and get all sorts of complements on them. I love their linens too.

Take pictures if you get them. Found this little care tip in relation to Xmas ornaments in mercury glass. Care Tip: Submerging mercury glass in water may cause unwanted peeling. Wipe pieces with a damp rag to keep the sparkle without stripping off the mercury.

I'll take pics for you when I get them. I like the fact that they are big. (Is that more of the magpie thing?) If I haven't posted pictures by the end of June (I'm slow), nudge me.

vamp, thanks for the care tip. With my cleaning lady, there is no chance that they will be taken off and washed. I'll be doing good if she wipes them from time to time.

I LOVE those! Thanks for sharing (I think...) :~)

You should be able to find black rubber plumbing gaskets (like rubber washers) at any good hardware store -- and that may help.

But also buy extras anticipating breakage. You have been warned... They are lovely though...

Thanks all for the support. I have asked DD to go look at the knobs for me. I've called my Sherwin Williams store and they have the dark base Prep-Rite that has previously been recommended as the first coat when painting cabinets. Today, I ordered a faucet from Tuesday Morning. I may actually get a project started and completed in a reasonable time!

Sweeby, you are right. *I've been warned.* But a girl's gotta have what a girl's gotta have!

I have these knobs on my dresser. No problem with the glass. However, the metal flower part on top of the knobs got bent out very easily and then it would snag and scratch when I use the dresser. Another thing is the screw is very long so depending on the depth of your cabinet/drawer front, it may stick out in the back (mine does but DH cut the screw down for me). Another thing is that the knobs tend to come loose but you can use extra washer in the back to keep it tight.

Having said that, I gotta admit I'm in love with them too. My neighbor has these knobs on her kitchen and it was stunning !!! She has the older version black iron with silver/white mercury glass knobs.

I love Anthropologie too! I'm looking to change the hardware in my kitchen and I've been lusting after their knobs. :-)

I think this mirror would look so sharp with a dark brown cabinet and those knobs. I guess antique white cabinets would look nice as well.

That mirror is gorgeous! I am going to put a Mirror Mate frame around the big glued-to-the-wall mirror that is already there, though. This is not a total bathroom re-do. It is more of a "freshening." Paint the vanity, change out the light fixture and the faucet, frame out the mirror, and install new knobs.

Bellaflora, thanks for the info. It is good to hear from someone who has seen these knobs "in action." I also am glad to hear that even with their quirks and weaknesses, you are happy that you have them.

So who's going to share pix of them in action?
And, I have been browsing that site- going to try to go look at them in the store today if possible.
The mercury ones are incredibly gorgeous. I keep browsing the site and just noticed the bubbly glass one, as well as this multi hook thing. how cool is this?

Below are the knobs...just installed last night. I really like them! I'm hopeful that I am going to post more pics of the refreshing of the guest bathroom soon (I'm having trouble figuring out how to edit myself out of the shots of the mirrors).

Oh they look so very pretty!
As for editing yourself out the the photos, if you use photobucket you can do so using their editing system. Once the photo is open in their editor chose the decorate tab then click on the eraser and erase self. Simple as that. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the room.
