OH, just wanted to mentioned that I tried out that pattern under the Christmas Gift chat.....for the Criss-Cross Coasters..what a blast..they go together so quickly - great item...I had some 5" squares that I thought I'd test this out on - and am very pleased.......they will make great gifts..if you haven't already tried...do so - it's so easy and they look wonderful...
The only thing that I changed is the lining..I wanted something that was a bit more strudy..so I didn't used the fusible webbing..instead I added a 4 1/2" square of cotton batting....it worked great!
    Cheers,
    Bill

The sunflower fabrics are all a part of the new group/coordinates from the FULL SUN collection from Maywood Studios.. I love them...I picked up 7 of the coordinates - and fell in love with the whole group....
They do them in order colways but I love the yellow/blue combo...
I just may have to go back and get the red group as well....

Your NKOTB block is also sunflowers. Do you want us to give you this same pattern so they will all match?

Lovely sunflower star, Bill, and the coasters turned out great.

Today I washed a lot of the fabrics that I got in Lancaster, then ironed them and put them in groups for their intended projects. I also made a linen dish towel for a gift. An afternoon nap was in order after standing at the ironing board for so long.

Those are awesome. I LOVE sunflowers. Thanks for the link, too. One can never have too many places to shop!

nice projects, Bill. Are those coasters the ones where wine glasses fit inside? I saw a pattern for them awhile back and thought they looked very interesting.

This weekend I'm just recovering from an overnight trainride from Toronto home. I may get some sewing done this afternoon.

    Hi Bill,

I love the block you made. the way you fussy cut the flowers so they peek into the center square is great.
I like the blue combo too, but that red combo really stuck to me, I think I 'need' it.
I don't know how I can justify it to myself though other than that I just 'need' it.

    The coasters are darling.
I saw the link to them, and was in too much of a hurry to check it out throughly.

You said they were easy to make, that sounds good to me.

I need some quick and east projects to make as Christmas gifts.
I promised myself to get started early this year.

That sounds like just the perfect one to get started with.
I like the idea of the batting too.
A coaster should be absorbent and I think that would work better.

Looks like you've had a busy and productive weekend.

I've started cutting out a Triple Irish chain quilt top.
It was in Fons and Porter March/April issue.

I'm doing it in the green too. It's for my Son.
I started him one last year and I find out he doesn't like red and the one I was making him was mostly red.
I finished it up and gave it to my niece.

I'm happy with this one, both because he likes greens and I like making him a quilt he will enjoy.
He has no idea I'm making him a quilt.
Hopefully I'll have it all finished up before he leaves out for the Middle East again Next month.
If life don't interfere with my fun, It shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for sharing your projects with us.
    You're quite good.

Bill, your sunflower block is lovely, you just can't go wrong with sunflowers!

Can you send me the link for making the coasters?
    They look like fun! Jill

    Hi Everyone,,
Thanks for the compliments on my projects - you're making me feel great - I'm new to quilting/patchwork - so all of this feedback has made me feel like starting something else.....
Faye, no, these are not the ones that wine glasses fit into - but I guess they could be.. They are a blast to make......
Jill, the link is attached - it's the one that Teresa posted in the Christmas Gift forum.....it's a blast - and so easy to put together...
Doris, your quilt is bound to be a hit..I haven't gotten to the point where I've attached a whole quilt yet - just doing blocks and little projects....but having fun......
I've been working on a new project this afternoon that I saw when I was on vacation in Newfoundland - it's a cookie tin - that's covered in fabric - and the top is done in a folden star pattern..I've used the scraps from my sunflower block...will try to finish to post a picture later...also did some pin cushions with the left overs...I find working with left overs is one of the most exctiting things about quilting - it allows us to be so creative with the smaller pieces....
Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone...

    Hi everyone...
Well, I decided to take those scraps and make 2 other projects...
Here's the first - a set of 5 pin cushions done in a log cabin style..they are all ready to be closed up by hand...but I'm pleased with them....will perhaps add some button emblishments, or whatever..have to think about that....

Here's the folded Star Tin that I just completed covering - it's not perfect - it's my first and I've had to experiment with a couple of things but for my first, I'm quite happy - it will be nice to use for sewing notions - or buttons...or just put on display in my sewing room.....
I'll have to try some more in these.....they are time consuming but fun......
This is a small tin... 5" in diameter...so I used 2" squares to make the folden design....I think that that worked ok...
    Cheers,
    Bill

    Bill,
You are definitely on a roll. Great job on everything! I love the sunflower fabric. It's just beautiful. Keep posting those pics. I'm jealous. LOL! Carolyn

    Bill,

Your pin cushions are so cute--good job!

    Your tin is wonderful.
I love the folded star on the top.
You did such a great job it's perfect!

Like Carolyn said, you are definately on a roll!

No one would ever guess you are new to piecing and quilting!

You are definately having fun. I really like the tin top. Do you have a pattern to share? I saw the site for the coasters and couldn't resist trying them and now I am ready to make some more. Once I cut the fabric I made 4 in about 5 min. I tried the fusable on my trial but used some thermore scraps on the 4 that I plan on as a gift. I think you use batting in yours. I liked the feel better.
I am glad you didn't choose to have that pretty block for the exchange as I already have yours done. Jayne

OK, Bill, you've got to stop this! LOL
Looking at all that you got done over the weekend is making me tired. And it's all so pretty.
I love the sunflowers - that's the name of our quilting company - Jordan's Sunflower Quilting. We've got sunflowers on all our signs & painted on the walls in the shop. I may have to make some of those sunflower star blocks too.
    Thanks so much for sharing.
