QOTD - free patterns

Do you have any sites you like for free patterns? I think we all use Quilterscache.com, but I'm sure there are lots of others. I just came across one I think has been recommended before but I had forgotten to bookmark it until today. This site has wonderful paper piece patterns:

EB has a page of free blocks. Another thing I like to do is to Google free BOM quilt patterns. It's fun to see what quilt guilds are doing in the pattern dept. :-)

For blocks...I feel like the blogger queen for free blocks, and patterns ...LOL

I always check a quilters blog tutorial page for block patterns as well as the free patterns associated with quilt a-longs.
Also I find free patterns and ideas on fabric manufacturer's pages as well.

There is so much "out there" in the blogger sphere...it's just amazing and overwhelming. I want to make it all!

I've listed my favorites in a post recently...so I won't bore ya'll with them again...I can surf the web hours...it's dangerous :-) lol

Surfing instead of quilting, I found an interesting paper pieced bee on a site that includes both free and paid paper piecing info. She includes a calculator for sizing blocks too.
    Lots of pretty choices.

Love that piece by number website!! Thanks for sharing...I can see going there for something fun!

It's been awhile since I had to search for a pattern to use. I always seem to have something already in mind, or 'something I always wanted to try', or whatever.

I agree that searching for patterns could be a full-time job in itself...

What I'd like to find is a website that gives you free motion quilting ideas. I can find pantographs, and am building a library of those. But I'm not so creative when I want to just fill a space [that I'm capable of in technique or quilt frame limitations]

I go to Pinterest for fm quilting ideas!

I just did a free motion quilting tutorials search and there are quite a few wonderful ones.

I searched online and bought a beginning book to use along with two others I had from classes. The best advice from all of them was to practice on paper first and then on a throw away quilt sandwich. Motor memory takes over after repeated practice and the pen flows more readily than the machine.

Linda, I totally agree about the motor memory & repeated practice.

What I'm looking for is more the various ideas of fillers... the shapes and motions to make to achieve different looks, rather than the how-tos. Maybe I just need to start looking at books...

Jen, do you know about Leah Day? Her 365+ free motion designs are my inspiration. I was going to pick one design a week and practice it until I had it down, but that only lasted awhile. (ok, I admit it, it only lasted 2 weeks, but it was a good idea!).

I have been trying the free FMQ tutorials at Inbox J.

It's not as easy as it looks but I am enjoying the practice. Just practicing on paper.
She has a lot of FMQ tutes.

Jen~the link below is a great blog on freemotion, tools, rulers, etc.

I have another site bookmarked on another computer (I think) and I just can't seem to find it! I'm on a mission, so I will post it when I find it -- or recognize it .

    Hope this helps!

    Jen,
I second The Leah Day web site...lots of ideas and challenges as well.
I thought I had bookmarked another site...but will need to look around, can't find it at the moment.
Of course there's Angela Waters ...she has some great ideas as well.

Here is the blog I mentioned above. Look at her Sketchbook.
She shows the stitch path, and how to practice. Lots of ideas!
Again, I highly recommend the magazine "Machine Quilting".

Whoa! Stimulation overload. Sure hope I bookmarked everything. There's so much great stuff out there!

Thank you everyone for sharing these great sites.

Marsha's link to LuAnn Kessi will take you to a remarkable quilter's site. I didn't know about her but I've book marked it all and will follow her quilting design sketches Pinterest page! They are wonderful!!! She only uses a handful of distinct designs but combines and repeats them.
