Need a laugh? Try widgets

I'm usually on the decorating side but was doing a search here. Ran into this old thread. I hope no one gets upset that I've provided a link but I thought this was SO hysterical!

It's from 2006 and if anyone is newer here or just wants to unwind from kitchen chaos, give this a try.

Please bring your sense of humor, it's all tongue and cheek. It sure brightened my day.

Here is a link that might be useful: widgets

ROFLMAO!! no widgets here I am afraid. Wish I had one though..I wanted to be just like Gidget when I was little, does that count?? Sue

I remember that thread! Can't believe it's still around.

Cooperbailey, we're having a yard sale tommorrow and I have a bunch of old widgets I'm selling. They are resined but honed, none are puce, and they are all mismatched...just in case you were interested. Never really liked them but thought they were trendy and felt I needed to have a few. Oh well, live and learn, eh?

You know, Julia Child never had a widget in her kitchen, and she was a master quinkler.

Darn, the thread had reached its upper limit of posts before I had a chance to ask if anyone could photoshop my choice of widgets into a picture of my kitchen.

Wheeeee!!! I started that thread, amazingly, over two years ago. I'd forgotten all about it! What a laugh. Thanks for bringing that up again.

I have examined 25,972 widget yards searching for just the right shade of sky-cobalt-baby-navy-blue widget to harmonize with my classic-yet-trendy spa-robins-egg-teal-widget, and can spout for hours (if you ask me, or if you don't) on the finer points of blue widgets. If there are other widget colors, I don't notice them.

    Wasn't that a fun one?
We do have our good times ;-)

rmlanza, Can you please photoshop yer widgets into my kitchen photos? Will they all fit in my sink at one time? Are they wonky widgets? I don't want anything wonky or matchy matchy.
Do they need oiling?, I heard some widgets were high maintenance, and I have a life.

What do you think the latest trend in widgets is? I don't want to finish my kitchen & find out that all of my widgets look outdated! Won't that seriously affect resale value? Has anyone seen the new issue of McMansion Magazine - just fabulous widgets but they don't seem expensive enough to impress my neighbors, MIL, boss, future buyers, or the postman. I don't really care because I don't cook. Maybe if I painted them sky blue-pink.......

OMG, I'm not sure people who don't read this site regularly get all the humor in that thread, but it's totally hillarious. This is a quirky, funny, bunch. Either that or redoing our homes for months on end makes us crazy. No doubt a little of both.

I want no widgets in my home, hate them, even though everyone in my neighborhood has them and virutally all homebuyers demand them today. Home my house sells soon.

Blew that punchline. Line should read, "Hope my house sells soon."

We need to add to the acronyms page--TWO--Totally Widget Obsessed!!!

Did you see the $2M Christopher Peacock kitchen in the latest issue of Outrageous Kitchens? OMG, it had not one,not two, but THREE sterling silver widgets that were inset with pearls and rubies!!! I can only imagine how those babies quinckle! You MUST get that issue and drool away. Just one word of caution though -- as you salivate over that kitchen and those widgets, you could end up feeling as if your own remodel project that you have working on for your entire life is just so not "there." Don't! You can still have your own too-die-for kitchen with just one standard, yellow, squishy widget. In fact, I remember seeing that in one of kitchens on the FKB (sorry, I don't remember who) and thinking, "way to go!" We can't all be Peacocks. Nor should we. Do your own widget thing!

You're welcome lowspark (Traffic? love them).

Reading that thread made my day. This has been MY problem...
I bought a bunch of "sample" widgets. You know, the kind you can paint over. Well I tried them in all sorts of different lighting. With morning sun they look fine but in the afternoon sun, they take on a orangish tone. They are a complete disaster in artificial light. Even though I want these widgets for my 20 ft. great room, I tried them out in my small powder room to see what that light would make them do.

Maybe if I get different light bulbs?? Also, what sheen do you like best for widgets? I'm at a loss and need HELP!

PS. It's nice to be able to laugh at ourselves. This post isn't far from what I actually post on the decorating side. :)

Saw this while in the middle of my kitchen redo and it put my feet back on the floor back then - probably 'cause I was ROTFLMAO!! Now that I'm 99.9% finihsed, I wonder what the heck I was upset about while going through it. Pretty uplifting thread - then and OMG, even now.

BTW, that .01% that needs to be finished is the widget I have to pick out that matches the rest of my kitchen. After researching and looking at everyone's widget pics, I think I'm going WIDGET-FREE!!! I don't think they are for me.

BTW, this thread needs to resurface semi-annually, at least - Thanks!
