What thread does everyone use?

I was wondering what thread everyone uses? Since I started quilting this summer I have only used Aurifil. It does seem quite expensive at 12.00 a spool but considering it has 1400 yards and I can make 3 quilts with one spoon, that's really not too bad price wise. I was just curious as to what other people use....Thanks!

For quilting on my frame I use Coats & Clark cotton (big spools I get at JoAnn Fabrics). For piecing I mostly use C&C Dual Duty. For machine embroidery I have both Sulky rayon and Floriani polyester.

I like Aurifil and used it until my machine decided it didn't like it anymore. I had problems with the thread breaking so I switched to Gutermann.
I use Madeira thread for embroidery. I have the Madeira thread chest. I also like Floriani thread for embroidery.

Aurifil is an excellent thread and I often quilt with that on top. My other favorite is Superior's King Tut. I still use their Bottom Line on the back as I can get lots more on the bobbin.

For piecing work I use the Connecting Threads spools. They seem quite durable and come in so many colors. I use it in the bobbins of the piecing machine as well. It's very inexpensive by comparison.

For piecing, I use four colors of Aurifil 50 weight, 100% cotton - black, white, grey and tan.

For applique, I use mostly Mettler cotton. I seem to have both 40 and 50 weight.

On my Tiara, I quilt with Signature 40 weight, 100% cotton thread. It was recommended by my LQS, and it seems to work really well.

I use different kinds but I have several spools and cones of Connecting threads that I use for piecing. I also use Signature , YLI, Gutermann, and some C&C. I am going to look into a rayon that Medeira is supposed to have, I believe it is Auriquilt but not sure. I was told it feels like cotton but is stronger. It was recommended by the lady that sold me my machine. For embroidery I have several spools that came with my Janome machine.

I really like Gutermann and King Tut cotton because they don't shed lint as much. I have used the better C&C cotton but it isn't quite the same quality. I used to be a cotton snob but have tried the polyesters and really like how they have a slight shimmer. The LQS here sells a brand that is good and affordable - Exquisite is the name. It comes in many different colors that you can't find in the other brands and it runs well in my machine. I like the Gutermann brand poly but it is expensive. I find myself slobbering over those wonderful sets of it at Joann's, but I'd probably just put it on the wall to just admire and never use it if someone bought me one. LOL!

On my quilt frame machine, I ONLY use King Tut on top and Bottom Line in the bobbin. If I try to use anything else, I have problems.

I piece with the commonly found cones of serger thread or similar generic spools. I also have some hand-me-down spools of Mettler & Gutermann that I might grab.

I might use any of the above if I'm quilting on my standard machine with my walking foot.

I mainly use Essential from Connecting Thread. (I hate changing thread)

I use Coats & Clark all purpose thread on my sewing machine and for hand-piecing and hand-quilting I use Coats & Clark hand quilting thread. I try to watch for and catch it on sale at Hancocks fabric store here locally. So usually I can get a 325? yard spool of hand-quilting thread for under $2 a spool when I catch it on sale.

    Best to you,

I use mainly Connecting Threads for piecing. Since my quilitng is mainly done with the walking foot I use whatever comes in the color I want to use; I really love variegated thread for quiting. Coats & Clark is fine as long as you clean your machine frequently.

Gosh... thank you for all the replies, I did not realize there were so many options for quilting thread. It's interesting to see what other's use.
