If you want to modern it up you could do a stainless handle...The cabinets would look nice stained in a charcoal grey.

Darker like mahogany and stainless handles

We just painted a unit and used Benjamin Moore's Cabinet Coat - great product. Try it out first so you get the right flow as it will streak if it's put on too dry, sand the cabinets well - no need to prime, but I would for high use in a kitchen. Lay them flat to paint them and use a foam roller. Don't put on so much that it runs, but just enough so it flows together as it becomes dry and it will look just like lacquer. Use a matt finish. I've attached a visual for you, in charcoal and wood stain it's not perfect as this take some time, but you can see how your cabinets will look in the gray. Good Luck

:-) always helps when you can see it. Handles are show in black, but I like the hardware in stainless you've shown above. Just shows a little better in the image in the black.

Carolyn - what software did you use to create those images?

I agree, a steel gray color would be look sleek against the stainless steel appliances.

You will get a great finish if you took the doors and drawers off and brought them to be painted at a car body shop. More expensive but the results of prof spray can't be compared.

Darzy those are the handles I was looking to do. I also liked the cup looking handles too.
So dark cabinets would still be current? I am seeing so much white everywhere.

Here you go, I don't think you will like the white. The gray looks much better, with the pulls that Darzy has above. Should be okay with the green sectional, gray is pretty neutral. It will depend on the actual gray, if it has a lot of blue in it perhaps not. Pull a nice clean gray out of the backsplash colour. The backsplash is pretty busy so keep all the cabinets the same colour gray - if there is a gray in the fireplace tile that is the same as the gray in the backsplash try getting it close to that particular gray.
