flannel interlining

I am about to start window treatments for our new home and want to plan as carefully as possible before putting the shears to the fabric. Although the fabric store did not recommend this, I would like to interline the valances where the fabric is a polyester silk-like weight. My question is; could I use some cotton flannel sheets for the project? These are very good quality, prewashed and preshrunk, in ivory colour that I have no other use for at this time. The fabric and lining costs were such an investment that if I could save I would like to but not at the expense of the final look. The valance style is scalloped panels with inset box pleats and it will hang over two windows with roman blinds. If I am interlining this pattern, I assume that it will only be caught in the top line of stitching and barely into both side and bottom hems? Any help or experience that can be offered is appreciated. I am an experienced home sewer but never have attempted anything like this before.
