WOW, what a beautiful kitchen! I love the white kitchen with your black counters and handles. So well coordinated, did you do the design? The blackboard is a great touch. The flooring is gorgeous also, so many details to look at. I especially love your blue and white accents. We need details... When are the martinis being served??

I'll skip the martini, but I'll definitely toast you. That's one beautiful kitchen. The mirror fooled me for a second. That was a great placement for the window mirror. Don't know what else to say except, great job and congratulations.

WOW! What a dramatic transformation! It is so bright and cheerful! Love the chalkboard; love the mirror; love the plate rail! Congrats! Cheers to you!!

    How nice!

Did you amalgamate a dining room, or do you have another separate DR?

Boy, previous posters have sharp eyes, had to go back to catch mirror and blackboard- now blackboard on end of island- I have an antique blackboard that I lost wall space for, mmmm, will have to hold it up on the end of my peninsula...

So many ideas, so little space to use them all...!!!

I LOVE your mirror. We have a mirror up in that my husband loves and I think it is just okay, so it stays. I am just going to let you know that I am stealing your idea, because that is a perfect compromise for us!

Beautiful! Nice details. Love the mirror. It fooled me, thought I was looking into another room.

SWEEEEEET! Sometimes tragedy (flood) leads to good things, eh? That's how I got my new kitchen, too!

    Congratulations!

    It's unbelievably gorgeous!

    Gorgeous! Great job!

Absolutely beautiful! Are those soapstone countertops?

Gorgeous details! I love the beadboard, corbels, chalkboard, and mirror (fooled me until I read posts from GW'rs smarter than me), and I'm glad to see that you kept just the right amount of blue in the accents!

What can I say except what everyone else has said. GORGEOUS! I'm so envious. I want one like it.

well i don't know how you're going to enjoy the kitchen without knobs in the very center of the doors....heh heh

but other than that....lol very nice! we're doing the chalk board on the end of our island, although its hidden behind doors...i might like yours better :( gorgeous kitchen!

Wow! What a wonderful transformation, love all your creative touches. Congratulations!

Unbelievable transformation. I really like the buffet area behind the table. Looks like it provides you with some great functionality and a good display area as well. Congratulations on a job well done!!

Wow. Looks wonderful! Happy cooking and drinking!

    Thank heavens for floods!! :)
Good from bad, Its beautiful love the blue, especially the plates.

I also got my current new kitchen from a flood. We are building but I sure loved this kitchen while I had it.

    Enjoy, Enjoy!!!!

What a dramatic transformation! Love the plate rail, your use of beadboard and the buffet wall behind the table, which is sooooo attractive. Was there a reason why you didn't carry over the arch-top cabs from the kitchen area into the buffet area? (It looks great, I'm just curious.) Your decorative blue and white displays are really lovely.

Very nice! Blue and white always look so fresh and clean to me. What is your countertop?

Wow, another kitchen with plate rails! :-)

That is one lovely kitchen; I almost feel I should congratulate you for the flood!

Wow, you must be thrilled. Are you thinking the flood was a blessing in disguise.

    BEAUTIFUL!!!

Your white kitchen is stunning! Congratulations!!

Wow! Had to keep going back to admire several times...Love the clean lines and the contrast of the dark and light with the blue accents. That space really calls for company...Congrats to you!

The cathedral style door part of the kitchen is the "real" part, American Woodmark Charlotteville from HD. The end of the kitchen is the "fake" part, unfinished oak cabinets from Lowe's painted to match the real side. They only come in the square door style.

    Countertops are Basalt Slate laminate.

Appliances, sink, faucet and mirror windows are all original preflood.

ORB hardware is from Cripes Distributing (25/$14 knobs & pulls). There's a towel rack that matches on the other side of the island. The blue porcelain melon knobs in the fake part are from Czechoslovakia/ebay.

The floor is Hartco engineered hardwood Provincial strip Sienna and the biggest bargain of the room at $2.49/sq ft. I looked everywhere for it and found it on a site suggested by someone here.

The island is on casters, which is incredibly cool to me.

I'm thrilled with the final result but would never, NEVER wish a flood or other disaster that requires dealing with an insurance company on anyone. This was my only claim in over 34 years and they tortured me over it.

In large part, it went together this well due to suggestions and tips learned here, the best being--hire a public adjuster rather than fight the insurance company myself. I can't thank you all enough for holding my hand through it all.

Thanks for indulging my curiosity, dian57. At first I wondered if you might've re-used the original wall cabinets and painted them to look like new. But your old cabs prolly weren't the right size anyway and, besides, they had that funky thing in the middle of the doors. Sorry you had to go through so much with the insurance co. Why do they have to be that way??? Hopefully now you can just enjoy your new kitchen.

Wow. I like it all so much! Can't stop going back to look. Love the mirror. And the chalkboard. Countertops look great -- I might just go with that myself. It's getting bookmarked in my "Kitchens I like" folder!

Wow. I like it all so much! Can't stop going back to look. Love the mirror. And the chalkboard. Countertops look great -- I might just go with that myself. What finish did you get on them? There are a few choices, aren't there?

It's getting bookmarked in my "Kitchens I like" folder!

    So crisp, so clean.

Now, help me out here...what does it say above your quilted photoboard..."This too will pass"...? Inspired by the flood, the insurance nightmare, or both?

another WOW GW kitchen! Absolutely beautiful job!

Saw your first picture and said, "that looks familiar!" My boyfriend had a leak and mold all over his lower cabinets. I recognize those noisy machines!

I then saw the "after" and said, "WOW!" Oh double WOW! What a beautiful kitchen! It is gorgeous!

Congrats on living through this--I know it is not easy and I know what insurance companies will put you through. My boyfriend changed his insurance company the moment the mold was cleared from his kitchen.

Great choices and I just love your kitchen. Congrats again. Great job!

Funny, when I was growing up my mother always said to us in times of crisis (she raised 3 daughters and a son), "This too shall pass."

I read A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle and there it was again!

I keep it as a reminder that neither the good times, nor the bad times last forever and the only time that matters is right now.

Note the photo of my farmer's pantry that is now replaced by the Lowe's cabinets. I couldn't afford to have it reproduced with the new kitchen but I loved it so.

Wow! Amazing transformation. I love how the corbels ans window trim play off each other.

The mirror is a good room expanding trick as well and I love the blue and white plates and accessories.

    Well Done.

LOVE IT! Love the black, with that red/black bowl -- and then the blue/white with your plates. Ah, so very very nice!!!!!!! Congrats on your flood, hee hee. (Glad you made it through dealing the insurance co!!!! funny how they don't have to harrass you to get the premiums paid but when there is a legitimate claim they don't want to hold up their end of the bargain.)

Beautiful! What is the design in the island corbels?? it is very pretty. I love your blue and white collection.
I worry about all of you that have had floods- is it water from broken pipes or river type floods?

Love it!! I generally don't like white cabinets, but you might have changed my mind....i really like the way it all came out.

Best wishes settling into your new kitchen, Dian. I'm really sorry you couldn't replicate your mother's cabinet now, but a great room like this has to end up well loved for itself with time. It's so nice to see all your lovely blue set off so beautifully, those great counters, and I love the way you can work at the island and still have a view out the window. It's all very well done. Happy cooking!

    Beatiful! From o*k to stunning!

Love the chinese pottery... I love to collect blue and white pottery but dont have the correct space to show it. Yours looks lovely!

Wow - what an amazing transformation!! I love all the details, too. What a great idea putting the island on casters. You have a really gorgeous kitchen.

Cooperbailey--there is a B on one corbel and an E on the other for my grandchildren, Ben & Emma.

Or for my friend's two golden retreivers with the same names. The dogs are older.

Love your kitchen, dian57! I am really inspired by your mirror wall with the shelf along the top and the mirror and the family photos. I have been looking for inspiration for the blank wall in my kitchen and I think I've found it!

What a fantastic change and an improvement to the bottom line of your home. Love it!

Your new kitchen is so fantastic that I have to keep going back to enjoy looking at it. You must love spending time in it now. It looks like something out of a magazine, like an ideal kitchen!

Love the change! It is so bright and inviting. I love the blue and white, the mirror and the island. It looks great! Enjoy.
