JOYY mosaiced some holes in her walkway waaaaay back - don't have time to search for them but she did spots where there were holes, which intrigued me immeasurably. I LOVE what she did. JOYY are you still here? Show us your walkway. Thanks, HRSG for referring to my walk. Honored. I brushed off my walk and used Mapei Ultra Flexx 2 Polymer Modified mortar for the adhesive. On the heart shape, I used Mapei Keracolor sanded grout - on the second design - yellow - I used the mortar for the adhesive AND the grout. Coming upon the second anniversary for the first piece, it has held wonderfully - no loose tiles. On the heart design, I even mosaiced over a huge crack - a no no, but I'm fearless, and it has held. One small piece came loose recently on the yellow one but it was because I was careless and ignored the temperature outside - hot blazing sun and it dried too quickly. I put it back w/the mortar and it's fine. Go for it, LISA.

Hi slowmedown, where did you get Mapei Ultra Flex 2 mortar? Is that the same as thinset? I tried HD, but they didnt have it.

My local Lowes doesn't seem to be carrying this anymore, now they have a brand called Lucrete or something like that. Of course, there wasn't anyone around to ask if it was the same thing you say you use. Are you still able to buy this at your Lowes?

Yep, that's it, and yes, I buy this stuff by the 25 lb. bags. Sorry you can't get it, but check to see if what they carry has the polymer added. If it's a cement based product, and has the latex admixture already in it, it'll be ok. If not, just buy the admixture and add it yourself. When I first started, I bought thinset from a tile store along w/the latex additive, and I THINK the guy told me to mix equal parts of water and admixture. I don't measure much, but nothing's fallen apart YET. I just love the Mapei brand, but there are plenty of other brands just as good.
