Will be going with Eagle/Anderson Windows

We are completely renovating a house we recently purchased. The facade and part of the rear are extensions and therefore considered new construction.

After reading about Eagle (now owned by Anderson) I researched all the companies and finally chose them (we have quotes from pretty much every company including Pella, Marvin, Loewen, Lepage etc..).

It will be aluminum with wood interior. There are inswing arched french doors (4 sets) in the front that will be Anderson Architectural, the rest will be Eagle. We went with Maple inside for the ground floor and master bedroom, douglas fur for the remainder of the house.

Eagle has so far had the best price when comparing apples to apples. The arched doors will be one piece (no transom) and their price includes jams and pre-staining.

As we will be signing and giving a deposit tomorrow (about 8 weeks delivery due to the maple, DF is about 5 weeks), I wanted feedback from those of you with experience. I feel confident with our choice but this is a major expense and am wondering if there are certain things I should watch out for.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated. We learned about Eagle on this website and found the only distributer here in Montreal.

I have used them twice. The first time they all leaked at the lower sash at the bottom of the glass. Eagle repaired all of them. The second time water would blow past the meeting rail in a storm (on the ocean). Eagle did someting and I haven't heard from the owner again.

Eagle is a good window for the price and probably worth any headaches. And they will put a clad sash in a wood frame (like Marvin) so it is possible to get a double-hung window with authentic trim and sills for restoration work. Their reps seem to be trying hard.

    Thank you for the response.

In reading some of the other threads here about other brands, along with your experience with Eagle, it sounds as if all these companies have constant issues with new windows.

There is only 1 Eagle and Anderson dealer here in Montreal, I am dealing directly with the owner, and so far the service from them has been excellent. This guy has even corrected mistakes that my architect has missed.

Know you have already ordered, but a few words for others.... We have Eagle windows in our current home - they are OK, but not terrific. They are now 7 years old and exterior have faded quite a bit (forest green). We have also had 2 apparent seal breaks which have caused moisture between the thermopanes and some of the exterior dividers are coming loose. Overall, though, they have been pretty good and withstood pretty harsh weather conditions. No mechanical problems. However, I would NOT recommend the Eagle french doors - the doors have sagged and there are now large gaps between the frame & door. If we were staying in this house, I'd replace them - the heat loss is ridiculous!
We are building a new home and have gone with Marvin this time - and are going to have the Marvin folks install the doors so if there are any issues it will fall to them rather than the contractor.

Thank you for your response, cheradk.

We have 4 sets of Frech doors, but they are the only items that are not Eagle, they will be Anderson Architectural.

If not for Eagle, I would have probably gone with Marvin but the price and final product difference was significant. Anderson (and thus Eagle) are not well known here in Montreal. Marvin is quite strong here and does have a very good reputation though.

For about the same money as the other companies, I have the following additions which were not included by Marvin and the others.

-Maple and Douglas fur wood, instead of Pine.
-All windows and doors are pre-stained
-All Jams are included and stained at the factory.
-Upgrade to Pewter hardware on first floor and master
-One piece arched French doors. The other companies were going to use a transom. This was the main deciding factor. These 4 sets of doors are all on the façade of the house and we very much liked the look without the transom. When the other companies quoted this way the price shot up beyond belief.
