Odd Electrical Wiring Problem

Hi All,

I have an interesting wiring problem which has me scratching my head..

About 2 weeks ago, I plugged in a heater which tripped the breaker. The power draw of the heater is 1300W, which was obviously too much for the 15A to handle (since other items draw power from the same circuit). Anyway, after turning the breaker back on, I only get power on part of the circuit. The circuit controls some the light in the master bedroom, master bathroom, and guest bedroom. In the guest bedroom I have no power at all, in the master bedroom I only have power to the master bathroom. All the receptacles in the master bedroom are on a separate circuit.

So, thinking the receptacle where I connected the heater was the cause of the problem I replaced it, but still have no power. The thing I can't figured out is this.. If I connect a voltmeter from hot-to-ground it reads 120v. I if I connect it from hot-to-neutral I get 0v. And if I connect it from neutral-to-ground I get 120v! I can't figure out what is going on. How could the wiring be messed up if it worked before? The receptacles in the master bathroom, read normal. hot-to-ground 120v, hot-to-neutral 120v, neutral-to-ground 0v.

The wiring in the house is weird to begin with, the circuit in questions, provides power for the following:

Ceiling Fan/light in master bedroom

Light and two receptacles in master bathroom

ceiling fan/light in guest bedroom

3 out of 4 receptacles in guest bedroom

Door bell

Light on entrance hall.

I am at the point where I think I'll just run new wiring, in a way that makes sense.

Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
