track lighting gremlins

I replaced a recessed fixture with 5 sections of track lighting 3 years ago. Coming out of the can I have one section going north, and I have two sections going south, a 90 corner, then two sections going east. Each track has one 12 volt fixture in it. All track is from the same manufacturer and purchased at the same time. The fixture at the north end never gives me any problem. The last fixture on the other end of the run never gives me any trouble. In the last 8 monhts, the three in the middle have caused me no end of frustration. They go out. Then come back on. Then go out. Then work for week or so. One of them will go off/back on two or three times each evening. I thought maybe the fixtures were funky, so I started moving them around, trying to isolate the problem. Same results--the two end units work fine, but the ones on the middle strips do their own thing.

It doesn't make sense to me that there could be an open circuit in the middle tracks, if the one beyond it works. Doesn't the electricity "flow" through one track to the next?

Anybody have any ideas on this?

Thanks.
