Wall Painting

I did plastering of my walls two months ago and I want to move in. However my interior decorator insists its still not the best time to apply the wall paints. How long am I supposed to wait till I am able to have the walls painted? I cant imagine moving in to a house with no colors!!

Check the moisture content of the plaster.......you can do this with either a pad type meter or a pin type meter. I prefer the pad type. Take a number of readings from top to bottom and from corner to corner. Check with a knowledgeable paint supplier as to the acceptable levels for the paint product selected.........ain't no big thing. I suspect your interior designer is just being overly cautious.

Your decorator thinks two months isn't long enough for the plaster to dry? How long is s/he recommending? I'm afraid I don't understand why it takes longer than two months. Are there other issues?

olldbobbi, He says its good to do the paint when the walls are completely dry and shows signs of whittish on them. I too dont see the sense in it

If your plaster isn't dry after two months, there could be other issues. Is this new drywall? Do you have moisture problems? Is there heat in the house?

Other, more experienced Houzzers will weigh in on this, I'm hardly a plaster expert but it sounds fishy to me.

olldbobbi its a new house so newly plastered.... but even from the look at it its dry though it hasnt fully turned the whittish color

I had water damage in a living room. It had to be completely gutted and re-drywalled and plastered. I painted it the next weekend. This was four years ago and the paint is fine. I'm with olldbobbie, it just doesn't sound right. Did you have a special plaster technique done, like venetian?????
