Pattern clash or harmony?

I have been eyeballing this quilt forever, and I'm in the market for something new for my master bedroom. We have a summer quilt on the bed from Target of all places, which I love, but it's tissue thin and I need something a bit (just a bit) heavier for fall/winter. I am at an age, ahem, where I can't sleep under a heavy comforter without drowning in my own sweat. Anyway, that's beside the point. My question is, do you think this quilt will be a disaster with my rug because the pattern is too similar? I keep going back and forth so I figured I'd ask for votes.

What I have been looking for is something more floral(ish), with multiple colors, but can't seem to find anything I like. Everything in the room is gray (Revere Pewter walls, charcoal color headboard and rug) so I can really go in almost any direction colorwise.

Thoughts?

This is the quilt I like so much.

Because the rug is one color, I wonder if the pattern in the rug really reads as a pattern, or more as a texture? Is the pattern bigger? That would help too.

I love the quilt. I like texture, and the color is great.

Yes, I suppose it does read more as a texture. But it will be very close to the quilt since it's under the bed so...ack, not sure.

I am thinking something like this would work better and I love the colorfulness (that's a word, right?). If you zoom in, do you see a patch of gray like I do? Being literal and anal, I'd like it to have at least a bit of gray...

    I dont see gray, no.

    What about this? Too light?

    too dark?

    Where are those from?

I love the quilt, but my initial impression that that it would be very "circle/circle". Color wise, great, but if the pattern in the rug was say, a diamond, I'd climb right aboard the train.

But I really love that quilt!

    Both Anthropologie, Sue.

I looked at Pine Cone Hill, too but the only gold they had had no grey in them, and their greys were all very neutral patterns.

The circle/circle thing wouldn't bother me so much, so long as there were no other round things in the room...no round mirrors, art, pillows, light fixtures, etc....as one is more texture and one more color.

Mtn, I had been on the Anthro site staring at quilts and couldn't figure out why I hadn't seen the ones you posted...ah, they're duvets. I don't do duvets. I really want a quilt.

CLB, those are a bit too bright and white for me. (I have ivory drapes and bed skirt so anything with white-white isn't going to work for me.)

What do people think about the Company Store quilt I linked to above?

ohhh ... what if you put a very light comforter in it? They make summer weight ones

    why dont you do duvets?

I am not easy to please. I have duvet issues. Too upsetting to talk about. I just can't get them to look right. Everything bunches up inside and yes, I have used clips and ties and everything else...I just can't do it anymore. Too much stress at bedtime. I am only half kidding.

I love kantha quilts -- I use them on my sofa for the dogs -- but they are really THIN. Like, thinner than my Target quilt. I'm looking for a quilt with a little more weight to it.

    Told you I wasn't easy.

    LOL duvet issues.

Just throwing this out there ... if kantha are too thin, you could layer it with a blanket. Do you have any blanket issues? : )

Wow, that is a great Etsy site, Mtnrdredux! I just ordered a kantha quilt from them. I just noticed yesterday that my quilt has developed a tiny hole, which will be spreading I'm sure, so this was perfect. Thanks! Their prices are so low!

Why don't you order a sham from the company store and see how it looks in person? Less shipping than returning the quilt, if you don't like it. I love the colorfulness of that one, too, and it looks very nice with the gray in the floor.

Sue, of all shared by you and others, I like the one you shared from the Country Store, hands down. It's gorgeous!

    Anything here at LL Bean?

If you happen to have and use their Visa card, returns are FREE if you use the labels that they enclose with orders.

There is also Cuddledown, but I think what you'd want there are called 'coverlets'.

I have duvet issues too. A coverlet is just right for me even in the dead of winter!

Well, I ordered the Company Store quilt! It was on sale plus I found a coupon code for an additional 20% off, so it was hard to resist and I was worried that if I just ordered a sham to check the colors, I'd go back to order and the quilt would be out of stock!

    Thanks for all the input.

I love that first one you posted but I cannot find it on the company store website.
    Is it gone already.

The very first pic -- the gold quilt? That's not from Company Store, it's from Pine Cone Hill.

Oh thanks sue. No wonder I could not find it.

Sue, I'll step up and say that I'm right there with you on the duvet issues!! Yeah, they look pretty in the website photos, but in real life they always look lumpy and messy. Also don't enjoy changing out a king size one. It is very hard to find good quality quilts with nice colors/designs and a nice weight to them. I returned some from the company store because they were too thin and light.
