Who do I contact???

I want to have the electrical work I recently had done inspected , our local (town) building inspector informed me that he is not a licensed electrician and doesn't even take the panel cover off. I will be reporting the electrician I hired for not finishing the work, but i want the work he did complete checked. he upgraded our service 100 to 200,nover a month ago, and no inspections have taken place, our meter still has jumpers, the guy is a loser. and I was stupid enough to pay him upfront , this was a cash job for him, he intened to come back to finish, but apparently changed his mind. I obviously am doubting calling another electrician to come into this but want this finished, I am sick of it. Wouldn't the local poco want to get the jumpers out asap?? Who should I call???

thankyou

Many local inspectors are not "licensed" tradesman but rather generalists who may have to inspect plumbing, framing, and electrical all in one day. This is probably more true in smaller towns where budget restrains limits the number of people on staff.

Your best bet may be a personal visit with whomever is in charge of your local building department. Explain you problem and ask how you might best resolve the issue. Obviously you are going to have to pull the proper permits and pay the associated fees.

Certainly you want to hire a qualified and licensed electrician to finish up the work properly and safely. As always, your best source is personal recommendations from family, friends, and business associates.

Thats the funny thing, the electrician I hired IS licensed, and he has pulled the permits for this, he's just not contacting the building inspector to say that the job is "done", so no inspections are going to happen and I sit in limbo,I KNOW he is NOT coming back, we now have very hard feelings toward one another. Do you think another electrician be willing to come in and put his hands into this considering it is in limbo?????

okay, regarding wanting to have it checked, assuming you mean for your own personal peace-of-mind... my suggestion would be to find a reputable electrician to have a look. If the ONLY changes made were to upgrade the size of the service, the power company people may or may not be qualified (ask. ours are, as we have no local "inspector" - the power company inspects services minutes before turning them on).

Meanwhile, since you're already planning on "reporting" the last guy, inform the code enforcement people yourself that the job has been terminated, and you are ready for them to do whatever inspection they actually do (which sounds like "not much").

In other words, you tackle this from two angles. You call the inspector and get him to do whatever he does for the legal reasons, and you also contact someone qualified (poco, or electrician) to look things over for your reassurance that it's actually done correctly.
