"I'm a female and don't know a things about electricity."
I'm not even a female and I take offense to that! lol

Do you have a well? Sump pump?

Sounds like a motor running and dipping the power a bit.

No, I do not have a well or any type of pump. I don't turn on the ceiling light. I use the lamp by the bed until I can get some help.

Without seeing how dim the light gets, it's hard to diagnose. If it dims slightly, that is most often caused by a large appliance. It could be almost anything. In most cases it's harmless. In some cases it can indicate a problem in the appliance - for example, a motor which is trying to start, but can't because it's seized up.

If the light dims a great deal, or flickers, or you can hear a frying or sizzling noise, that may be an indication of a loose connection.

It's also important to note whether any other lights show the same symptom.

A couple of years ago we had a post from someone who had a mysterious symptom like yours - every so often the light would dim a bit, then brighten again after a few minutes. There were dozens of replies with ideas of what might be causing it. After a couple of days the original poster wrote in again. It seems she'd had a guest staying in one of the unused bedrooms a few days before, and the guest had left an electric flatiron turned on! Its thermostat was cycling on and off, and the load was causing the lights to dim and brighten.

First of all, Petey I'm sorry I made the statement about not knowing anything about electricity. I'm sure there are women out there who knows a great deal about electricity, I was only speaking of myself. Now, I was thinking I have an electric blanket on my bed and it stays of about 8 hours. This good be my problem. I concern because it has never happen before.
