Our new kitchen

We bought our retirement home "the worst house" in a wonderful neighbourhood and have spent the last year renovating it and are soon nearing completion.

We are including a photo of the before and after of our kitchen.

It is lovely....... but seems to be lacking cabinet space and adequate lighting, perhaps you could post more pictures?

It looks great. Did you put the refrig where a door was before? Not sure from the photo.

I think they should have invested more $ on the lighting? So dark.

What a beautiful transformation! I'm also drawn to the ugliest house on the block because, with a little love, you can make it your own. :) Congrats to you both.

Very impressive.... That before photo is so depressing and ugly. There comes a time in the older/aging years when you step back and look at the accumulation of stuff, and purge. Your cabinet space is not lacking at all.... Plenty of room for all that you need. I love what you've accomplished. Thanks for sharing it!

    Stunning!

Very nice! Taking out those hanging cabinets between kitchen and eating space was the first step to opening up this space. I took mine down at the suggestion of a friend and couldn't believe the difference. I found that no matter how nicely you arrange your tchotchkes, they looked like a cluttered barrier. Congrats for having bought "the worst" and having the wherewithal to make it great.

Yes, take some pictures during the daytime! I LOVE the backsplash - can't tell if the shiny pieces are little mirrors, mother of pearl, or stainless tiles?? Interesting table you added, too!

Your old kitchen is my current one....right up to the china cupboard! I hope I do as nice a job when I get mine done! Thanks for the inspiration!

Nicely done. Does the ceiling fan provide enough overhead lighting. I know the photo was taken at night but it looks dark. Perhaps some recessed lights are needed.

Did we ever find the backsplash tile name? I love the cabinet with china in it as well. We currently live in a backsplit, which was great raising children but now I am 60 and all these stairs so many levels.....ugh I so want a bungalow with some character and only 2 bedrooms. Used to love the woodburning stove now I want a beautiful flame throwing gas fireplace. Everything on one floor would be wonderful. Still would love to know backsplash u used?? LOOKS GREAT.

It is beautiful! What a transformation. (Now I'm waiting for the "retro" police to come and bemoan the removal of the old "cool" retro pink backsplash tiles. Or maybe they are only cool in bathrooms? Kidding.... )

Love the backsplash too! I'd love to know the name. I'm curious...where is the microwave?I don't care for microwaves on counters either. In our remodel, I'd like to have a vent over the stove like yours, but am always looking for ideas as to where then to put the microwave.

Beautiful and well done. Where's the microwave?

Phyllis and Mike great job on the Reno. Love the changes you made. Glad to see that you went with a range hood vs microwave over the range I think that was the biggest benefit in our Reno as well.

Great Job! I agree with isamuel71. Using a hood over the cook top kicked the kitchen a whole set of notches! Love the sparkling backplash!

Out of curiosity, why do so many people use stand alone ranges when a slide in is called for. Is it a price issue or do people just not know the difference.
