help me decide? pix tiles etc.

Here is my backsplash dilemna for today. I had grabbed some tumbled stone at HD and Lowe's and was playing with 2 colorways (mostly chiaro and a little bit of gold) in different patterns. I liked it, but am hesitant about the unhoned and understand it needs sealing and I hear the color may change somehwat? And by the way, I rotated the pix but they are still showing twisted. sorry

Anyway in the interim I went to 2 tile places. -- I really like this one, the casa dolce flagstone in white. THe colors go great (in daylight)with my cabs, counters, and ALSO with the stained glass light. The sample is 2x2 but I would get 5x5 and probably a sprinkling of little iridescent glass mosaics AT nite, sometimes it looks good but sometimes it looks quite brown/gray which I dont like

THen at a different tile store, I saw this- Marca Corona Origin Ivory which to my eye, looks nice and warm, goes well with the granite and cabs, more neutral. It does have some variety in the tiles, mostly between ivory and some tan/gold. I like shading variance in the stones.I supose I would also get some sort of accent with them.

Can any body shed some light (hahahah) for me? I have never picked out a backsplash. Oh and by the way that little bit of wallpaper in the background is my old wallpaper, but I put it there just for color reference because it really worked well .....

Help. I have more photos if you need, but I am afraid I will be booted off this forum as THE most indecisive ninny ever.(but if you want to see 'em, ask:)

I should have explained that the second one(Marca corona) has the marca corona tiles upright; the one casa dolce has those casa dolce upright.

And, if anyone can tell me how to make the pix not so gigantic, I would be grateful for that as well.

All of those you feature look good. About sealing, it's great because it enhances the colors, doesn't change it.

Wow writersblock that was so nice of you!
And Brutuses, thanks for the feedback. I may have to revisit the tumbled stone. I never get it straight about the right name; it is the stuff that is chalky. The other 2 above are porcelain tiles.

Here is the travertine mentioned from earlier.Feel free to correct my camera here too:)

If I went with the 5 inch casa dolce (that I have the sample withe the 2x2 tiles) multicolored, when it is not reading graybrown, and the palette is showing- do you think it is too un-neutral? While I think I prefer those tile colors for ME, do you think if you were a potential buyer (again, maybe in a year or two or three) one of the other choices would be safer?
Or is it really half a dozen of one.... not much difference?

well, it's evening now, so once again the muted varied palette looks less good and the plainer ones look better, warmer,
Can I just get a projection screen and in the daylight have the muted casa dolce ones, and then at nite, get the marca corona ones?
THat must be my solution! (but seriously, reality being what it is.... I still am tossing and turning:(

i think those colors are all too close to the color of your cabinets. i'd like to see a rusty brown-red color on your BS, kind of similar to the small accent tile you've got propped up in the last shot.

it's kind of hard to see, though. could you post a longer view shot of your kitchen with the counters cleared off?

Thanks for the suggestion. Its funny because I was thinking that some sort of red might just be the ticket. (I dont think I want a red/brownrust backsplash, but I think some accents of that could be very good. with that in mind, I think this minute that the more beige-gold ivory tiles could work with some punch added).
here is a pic- again the lighting is not the best but it give s a feel for the layout somewhat.

I just saw the one kad2 did with a beigey tile and some glass tiles in a horizontal border but not overwhelming. Something like that or with some glass tiles in the diamond patterns interspersed...

I don't know if you're adverse to this idea, but how about accenting the goldy cream tile you like with some greenish glass or ceramic tile to tie into the lamp over your table?

Wow. So what am I doing wrong? Is it me or the camera- I used to get good pictures. Thank you writersblock again for fixing my pictures!! (Really, thank you).
And remodelfla,YES! I am not adverse to that at all.I would likd to tie in some other of the brighter, cheerier colors.from the rest of the house.I do like those creamy gold ones- they do seem to "work" well, and they are variegated(word?) which I do favor... but I do feel they need some extra sumpin'sumpin. I am not typically a green girl, but I could consider some splashes of green/blue possibly. Good food for thought - that is why I come here.

i think you'd be well-served by getting some color in that backsplash. your kitchen is all neutrals right now.

think darker foresty greens and rusty reds. those two colors would work well individually or in combination with each other.

    >Is it me or the camera- I used to get good pictures

It looks to me like your white balance setting (daylight, cloudy, tungsten, fluorescent etc.) is wrong. If you have a point and shoot that's usually in the menus, although some of the more deluxe ones have a knob for it. Try auto WB if that's not what you're using.

I can picture something similar to the one kad_2 has, except I'd like a green/blue accent better in your kitchen to pick up the color of the granite.

    HELP

Ok so just got back from another visit. I really am getting kind of depressed/frustrated with this. I did bring home some glass tiles to see if they work with the plainer marca corona tiles but I am so upset that I havent even taken them out of the car.
Last nite I was ready to do one,, then this morning, another. Anyway I looked at the link for mosaic-tile.com and thought that perhaps.... one of the three could work? any but the bamboo one, possibly the verde or portico.( Iwonder can anyone photoshop that with the marca corona origins ivory in a 4 by 4? ). I do like the one kad2 did, but I dont think I want to use that shape tile. Could something like that work with a square tile for the field tile?

To make it easier....and would these be too specific or particular to turn off buyers any more than my granite/decorating would? I am thinking maybe an inch or so as kad 2 used it on top of the bottom row of tiles and then maybe something above. Another question- could these be used with tumbled travertine? (the chunky ones?)
    portico

    and verde
