A friend just used this in her bathroom and my custom cabinet guy thought it was real wood until he got down and looked more closely, so you might be surprised at how realistic it can be! Great choice, I can't wait to see it installed!

Are you saying that that piece that looks like a slightly dinged up piece of lumber is tile? Wow! I've never seen anything like it and kept looking for the 'tile' you were talking about. I actually love how it looks next to the exposed aggregate. :-) That should be cool, and an interesting and satisfying solution to your dilemma.

Both pics were taken at my house. You can see I have miserable white glossy tile inside and 1970's chatahoochee outside. I had always wanted to replace the outside stone but it's SOOOOO expensive to do. Would have cost me around 14K so I learned to embrace and love the 70's stuff. I figure that if I waited long enough it would come back into style! Now that we'll be renting out my house; I"m glad I didn't put the money into it.

I think the tile has some character, will hid dirt great, and my little dogs won't be able to damage it. It certainly has a casual look to it. I'm not sure how red birch cabinets ( my first wood choice) will go with it. But there are a few different colors if it's awful. I can't think of another wood I like as much as the red birch except maybe teak which I think would be darker.

My living room sofas are med/dark gray leather and my kitchen table and bar stools for the overhang I've posted before but for anyone who hasn't seen are these:

I've seen something similar to this in a tile store display and it was wonderful! A very good compromise!

Our kitchen designer has this on the floor of her showroom/office and it is very nice. I think she even told me she dropped a piece of granite on it and was afraid she would have to have her husband do some repair work-NOPE-the piece of granite broke but not the tile floor!

I have this EXACT tile in my downstairs guestroom. I LOVE it! I specifically was looking for wood looking tile and was not happy with any until I saw that one. I was going for a beachy/cottage look. I was only able to find it in one specific tile store where I live, no one else carried it. There were I believe 2 different colors. I went with the darker of the 2 which looks like what yours is. I promise you will love it. Just make sure that your installer staggers it correctly. Also, my installer made a beatiful saddle out of the tile, it is a wide opening with french doors. I didnt want to introduce another material with a marble saddle. Its about 4 or 5 tiles across. Good luck and show us pics. I promise you will love the way it looks. It looks a little vintage and people who see it are shocked when they step on it and realize its tile!!! Good choice!!

Wow - that looks great! I'm sure you'll be happy with the choice. Wish I'd known about this before my flooring fiasco :) I think it would be a bit costly at this point to rip out all the hardwood and install tile that looks like wood, but it's very tempting!

I used a similar distressed wood look porcelain in a bathroom for both the vanity top and an accent.

Mine came from Arizona tile company. Pricey, but I love it.

The tile is Dal Tile, Timber Glen Collection. The color I'm leaning toward is Hickory. I also like the Dune but it's a little lighter. I actually like all the colors, but DH and I thought the Hickory would work best for us. The best price I found online was from either Fast Floors or Stone Locator. I forget right now. A family friend owns a flooring business so I'll see if he carries the brand and what his price would be. Anyway... I digress...

I hope to be ready for flooring by the fall. Pipe dream?... maybe!

I really didn't have a specific idea when I started looking. I"ve been talking about, planning, and "searching" on this kitchen for about 3 years (off and on). I think my mind and therefore design sense works circular. I start on the perimeter and go around and around until I start focusing in on one thing.

Okay, I havent taken any pictures yet, but when kids go to bed I'll see if I can post a picture. I've never posted pictures on here before, so I'm not promising I'll be able to figure it out. I have to look to see if I remember the name. Although I would sware on a stack of bibles the tile is exactly what I have, I dont remember brand being Datile. It was Soleil or something like that. I know for sure it was from Italy. I'll try to get pictures and name for you later tonight. :-)

I saw something similar to those at my tile store too, but was concerned about the grout lines on the ones they stocked there. I wanted to run them vertically on one wall of the shower. But, their grout lines completely took away from the illusion of continuous planks. How is the grout handled on yours? What size grout lines?

BTW, I love the look with exposed aggregate too.

okay I took pictures. They are terrible pictures to be honest, color is horrendous...but regardless I cant figure out how to post them here. Can someone tell me how? In the meantime I'll keep trying.

dinkledoodle... since they are rectified I can go with 1/16th grout lines. That's about as small as possible.

Excuse the white dust. We still have drywall dust settling in after the post-Ike bathroom renovations. That experience has me dreading the upcoming kitchen stuff.

We are really happy with the floors and the various appraisers, contractors, and insurance people all originally thought they were wood.

Believe it or not, there are several companies that sell that wood looking tile. I am tearing out carpet in my master bed room and closet and putting the wood look. Interceramic has 3 different styles. Woodlands, Colonial and Oakwood. They are all three different looking. Emser has a beautiful line. I even found a company on line that can be bought, but have not found a dealer locally to be able to see it in person. American Tile has one as well. Lots of choices out there.

It does hide dirt well. The grout is dark brown, so generally it does not show much except when kids spill something like ice cream. It is just that having had a bunch of drywall work throughout the house, the dry wall dust is continually settling, and my usual mopping does not get it out of the grout. That is an on the floor, scrubbing job. It comes up easily enough, but then the dust is right back. Until the last couple of months that was never an issue. We swept 2-3 times a week (2 kids, 3 cats, 1 dog) and if I felt virtuous I mopped on the weekend, but generally only in high traffic areas. That is key since we have around 1,200 square feet of that tile.

poohla... thanks for the heads up on the other lines. I've done a bunch of looking, and even had some gorgeous Italian line stuff mailed to me but the coloring wasn't quite right. I'll be sure to check out what you mentioned and see if it's any different then what I've already looked at. I can't remember the names of what I've researched! One thing that lead me to this brand is that it's rectified and thru body color porcelain... two things that were of importance to me. Plus, Bill V. mentioned that he was installing some somewhere in his own home. That was all the confirmation I needed that it was good tile that is worth the money.

We had to do engineered wood for our kitchen-family room, since it's on a slab, but if I'd have seen this back then, I would have considered -it looks and sounds like a really nice product.

We put in porcelain wood looking tile and I love it! It is not through body color, but I've only had 2 minor chips in the tile and a dark brown sharpie (lol!) did the trick! In fact, I told my husband the tile guy replaced the chipped pieces and he believed me. Of course I told him the truth, but he couldn't even tell.

I love this tile and it fools everyone. People have to bend down and touch it! I bought a steamer so I wouldn't have to mop the entire house :) Oh, and the grout isn't as light as it looks in the photo and we didn't use spacers either.

I'm liking that rectified Daltile you chose, remodelfla! Nice compromise.

I also like the idea of a 1/16" grout line, but wonder if it'll be possible considering with that size tile(20"+ usually dictates >1/8") and also the manufacturer's recommendation of a 3/16" grout line.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but this type tile seems to be a great compromise for me also in areas and just looking for clarification.

I'm pretty sure I had a cyber conversation with Bill V. on that and he knew what I had in mind. HOwever, I could be remembering incorrectly. You might want to put a "shout out" to Bill if that's a deterrent for you. I'll probably do that when I get closer to the flooring install.

sorry I've been missing...I didnt forget about you remodelfla!! I followed your directions for posting pictures. Thank you! Like I said,...not great lighting off...grout lines are really not this light and tile is not this dark..ugh! But I hope it still helps. Also you can see as I mentioned, that I used wide and narrow "planks." It seemed a little more "cottagey" to me that way. I am going to work on getting more up...just wanted you to have at least one.
