Jenn-Air Range

I'm considering a Jenn-Air dual fuel, free standing range. It has two ovens....a small one on top, and a larger oven on the bottom. Did a search here, but I didn't find much about this model. Anybody here have one? Or, any comments on Jenn-Air free standing ranges?

Thanks...

My daughter has one and loves it. She says that she uses the top oven all the time. Jenn-Air has always been a good product. Hope you will like it also~~

Thanks...we figure we'll really use the top oven quite a bit too.

Has she had any problems with the range?

"Jenn-Air has always been a good product."

I have to disagree. Please, please, please check the appliances forum. We had a DF range that we bought in 1993, and it was a dream. A newer one bought since Maytag took over JA was a nightmare. It wasn't a lemon, unfortunately, but very typical of their DF models apparently.

I will check on the appliance forum...thanks.

qhound you will not see very many good reviews on the appliance boards. Alot of the posters there are very serious cooks and buy very expensive (out of my budget) ranges and for some reason dislike Jennair. I love to cook as well and I bought a Jennair range in December and have been using it since about February and I love it. I love the look of it and the function of it. I have not had one problem what so ever. Mine is a different model than yours and all gas (below). I did ask around on appliance board when I was looking and people with Jennairs liked theirs as well, not one complaint. So for what it's worth I think its a great looking, great functioning and not so bad priced range, well worth the money :)

I think my slide in Jenn Air gas range is like dd70s but a year older as it looks a bit different. It has has been in for about a year and a halfish. I really love it. The warming drawer is so convenient, I use it frequently. The selfclean feature works well. The oven preheats quickly and the convection is great to use. No complaints here. Sue

I have a model similar to dd70's - Mine is DF propane/elec., slide-in w/ warming drawer. I've been using it since December and love it. It's at our lake house (which we'll eventually be retiring to)and I prefer it to our pro range here at home. As mentioned above, I find the oven preheats quickly and I make use of the warming drawer more than I thought I would. Also, the oven fan is much quieter than my home stove, and the stovetop is easier to keep clean.

Though I've only been using it for 6 months on weekends, I think between the dinner entertaining and brunches we do that it likely sees more use than many full-time kitchens do in an average week.

Thanks for the reviews. I consider myself a serious home cook. Our stove will see lots of use for sure, but it's mostly cooking for the two of us.

We are building a new house, and just upgraded to granite counter tops....so I kind of need to go easy on my range selection. I was in a store looking at a Bosch slide-in, and my eye was drawn to same range that dd70 has. Then we saw the double oven model and thought would be nice too, but I've been reading that it's pretty picky about placement of gas & electric to let it sit flush. I think a slide-in looks neater...so I think I'll stick with one of those.
    Thanks for the help...

I didnt think to mention that I am a pretty serious cook as well and really use my range.I have noticed as well that the convection fan is so quiet that when I read posts about convection fan noise in other ranges, I worried that perhaps mine wasnt running. But it was.

Qhound, I'm posting here to avoid being seen by bruceallen on the appliance forum (pretty devious huh?). I don't know that forum as well as this one but he has links to consumer complaints about most, if not all, of the well known brands. Apparently he is known there and has strong opinions (as far as I can tell, generally against higher end ranges). He is not the only voice to listen to on that forum. I don't have an opinion on Jenn-aire but I'm tired of feeling defensive about my Thermador.

You know, I followed a link to that consumer complaints...and found every brand has its fair share of complaints! (guess who gave me the link?)

I really did like the model that dd70 linked to...and so far, it's in the front running for me. I have LP, and I just need to decide if I want dual fuel, or just straight LP.

bluekit....I hear what yer sayin! :) I see there's a pretty heated discussion over there regarding pro-style ranges. Well...if I could afford one...I'd get a pro-style range in a heart beat! But alas.....I have champagne tastes on a micro brew budget!

qhound I know what you mean.I would have loved to buy a pro bad boy or picked out a sexy lacanche like Igloo and others here. But not on my budget- so the Jenn air is much nicer than anything I have owned, it does everything I want very nicely and it is a prostyle look. I am happy with it. You do what ya gotta do. Now if I win Lotto- stand back! Sue

Check the inside of the oven with your favorite pans or cookie sheets. Sometimes the inside can be shallow with the convection feature. Also check out the noise level of the fans.

    As always, YMMV.

    Good advice lenam....thanks!

I got a Jenn-Aire convection slide-in last summer - not dual-fuel though, it's all gas - and was apprehensive about how noisy the fan would be after reading some complaints about how loud some of the fans are. Boy was I surprised when I started using the range. It was (and is) really quiet!

I have the freestanding one. Had it about three years in stainless. I love it with one exception...because the knobs are placed on the top (side) of the burners the burners are squished together and make larger skillets sitting side by side very difficult.

I didn't really notice that in the store...then I was looking at pictures online and noticed it. That's why I'm considering the slide-in now.

    Thanks.

The Jenn-Air in the picture looks very similar to my Bosch slide in except the Bosch has 4.7 Cu Ft of interior oven space and the Jen-Air has 4.5. On the appliance forum, they said the Bosch had some complaints about the fan being noisy. When I have spoken to the folks who own one, they state it isn't noisy at all.

Since I LOVE to bake, I wanted that tiny bit more space and went with the Bosch. If I could I would have gone with a DCS, Dacor, Gagg, etc., but don't have the $ to do so. My dual fuel Bosch pro range just arrived late yesterday. It will probably get installed next week, after the flooring goes in. Can't wait to give it a test drive!

Folks at Pacific Sales state it is an excellent stove for the $ and is just a knotch below the pro ones (less BTU's on the burners). So, you may be very happy with the Bosch if you choose to go that way.

Blue--BTW, my Mom had a Dacor for years and recently redid her kitchen. She went with Thermador and just loves hers!

The Bosch is still in the running....I'm trying to decide between the two. Going out again today to compare both.

    Thanks.

Man ...this is getting tough! Went and looked a few more ranges today:

    Bertazzoni.....I like this one!

DCS.....very nice, but I didn't like the plastic knobs with "lite" printed on them!!

    Viking....too expensive for me!

Electrolux Icon....I like this one too.

I'd like to see an American Range in person...trying to find a local dealer.

DCS is a great range. They did change their knobs in the past couple of years. Haven't seen the new ones. I think they make Electrolux. You can check by looking inside the DCS to see if it has the blue interior.

Berta's, I also love their look. Folks that have them rave about them. However, you have to light up the oven like you do your gas grill. For some, that is no problem, for others it is a turn-off. They also have a bit smaller oven space too, from what I recall. However, they make my Italian heart sing!

Did you check out Blue Star? I hear only wonderful things about them. How about an AGA?

I think DCS is now made by Fisher Paykel. But, it's still more than I'm really wanting to spend...

I have been reading quite a bit on the Berta's here...lots to read! The salesman made sure to let me know about the lighting quirks...not a big deal for me. The oven is a tad on the small side...but we are not bakers, and really use the oven for roasting meats, etc... So far, I think the Berta has moved into the top spot!

I have not seen a Blue Star yet....I'll have to see if there is a local dealer around.

    The AGA's look great! I didn't see a 30" however.

You can check out a 30 inch AGA on line at the AGA website. I think Blue Star is Canadian and I think they also have a website as well. I am dying to know which one you will choose! If you get the Berta, I want to know how it cooks. Maybe that will be my next stove in 20 years.

Right now the Berta is in the lead! There's an old Triumph motorcycle that just came into the picture...so now I'm really trying to keep the range costs down!

I've had my gas slide in Jenn-Air Range for two years, and I love it. I cook and bake all the time and it is terrific. Gas/Electric is the way to go if you bake a lot. I still love my range and so glad I choose it. Professional ranges are not for everyone, and I love the amenities on my jenn air, especially the timers and convection cooking. Love, Love Love it, and as I said, I cook every day. Good luck in your choice.

I have a JennAir fridge (french door, white floating glass). It is *gorgeous* for which reason I *almost* got their range. Instead I ended up with the Bosch. The Bosch range is amazing. Very powerful, with an excellent simmer burner. The overn cooks evenly for gas and it has a very good broiler.

My refrigerator has all sorts of problems (like freezing my greens). People I know with the Jenn Air range have had problems too--- it does look nice, though. Wish the Bosch was as attractive.

I made the huge mistake of purchasing the stove/dbl oven/dual fuel appliance you are speaking of this past June 2008. DON'T DO IT.........THE CONVECTION FEATURE DOES NOT WORK. Whirpool, acquired Kitchen Aid, Jenn Air and several others in 2006. Since then it would seem to be their mission to destroy the quality products previously manufactured by these companies and to totally trash their reputation of quality and customer service. My husband and I are planning a two hour drive to the corporate headquarters in Benton Harbor MI to try and get some satisfaction. You may want to check Better Business Bureau, Attorney Generals Office Consumer Complaint Division and read the over 100 customer complaints on the website I am going to refer you to. We have had 4 service calls and spent hours on the phone w/people that must have been given a lobotomy before being hired into this company.
The website is Amy's humble musings or humblemusings.com/archives/2005/10/18/buyer-beware-an-open-letter-to-the-kitchenaid-ceo.
Apart from the fact that this conglomerate is ruining the reputation these companies previously enjoyed, they have also trashed the quality, caused thousands of $'s in customer reported losses and damages, and endangered the safety of the consumers, with inferior products that burn, blow up, leak, etc.
