Dotcomegone, I can't help but respond to this post because I think a lot of our thinking may be on the same page -- even though you've pretty much said you don't want my kind of table. LOL! At any rate, I'm posting because my own kitchen dining nook, which is much smaller than yours, is located at the end of my galley run and adjacent to a triple bay window. More to the point - it's styled after a French "bistro." As such, I purchased an antique cast iron table base from an architectural salvage company (Urban Archaeology) and a Danby marble remnant that I had fabricated for the top. I hear you when you say you've already have a lot of marble going on in your kitchen. (which is gorgeous, btw!), so this idea of a marble cafe table may not be for you. But you may want to consider adopting my idea of purchasing the table base separately and then having a rimmed glass top made to fit it. At any rate, here's a couple of photos of mine:

marthavila, thank you so much. Yes, we do have similar taste and I have considered that idea too. I may end up doing that with wood top or perhaps black marble. I found some reproduction bases at cafe society online. Unfortunately the table that I had that turned out too modern had a table top custom made, so i'm a bit worried about starting again with a custom top. I love your nook and your floors are AMAZING! I would love to see more pics of your kitchen!
