I can't help you with the cost, but I wouldn't skimp on size. The price difference won't be nearly as great as the regret, after it's all done, and it doesn't feel like it's quite right. Once you put a few floats in there, and everyone is just bumping into each other, you'll wish you just did it right the first time.

I'm originally from NJ, but I'm in FL now and the most common/standard size is 30' X 15'. The shallow end is 3' and the deep end is just over 6'. I believe the average cost is about $25k. I would not skimp on options that cost a lot to get installed later, such as two returns and a vacuum port. We have an older pool, and to update it requires that we completely drain it, tear into some of the concrete pad, and then refill it. According to our pool guy, the water used, to fill an empty pool, needs to be treated/balanced first.

Where you can save is to keep it simple. Fancy shapes are more expensive and some things can be added later, such as a pool heater. You could also save by not doing the entire patio at the same time of the pool. Do the concrete work for the pool, then do the patio a couple of years later. Although, that might be one of those things that never get done, if it isn't done at the same time. :)

If you are going to skimp on the size then just go for a hot tub. with such a large yard you should consider installing a bigger pool and landscape the surrounding area and add an outdoor kitchen if you don't already have one. For something nice 60K easy.

I'd say you should get a bid from a pool company and see what the estimate comes to. Around here, bids on new pools are free, so you really only need an idea of how much backyard you're willing to sacrifice for a pool. The pool (and associated costs) could be $30k to $80k when all is said and done.

And if you have a 4' picket fence, you should consider that in all likelihood you'll want to replace that with a 6' privacy fence.

AC LB,,,this post is almost 8 years old. even if she did come back w/a price, it's 8 years old. and you have no idea how big or what type she did. all of that affects cost. Plus, your area, type of land, type of pool, will also affect cost. What she spent may be no where near what it would cost you.

Why don't you call out a few pool companies so you can get accurate estimates, instead of guesstimating one from an 8 year old post?
