Kitchen is Done!!

After 5 months, our kitchen is finally done. I've been lurking on this site for months, but just today signed up so I could post. Thanks so much to all the folks who contributed ideas/feedback about products we considered in our remodel.

I will confess up front, we spent a stupid amount of money on this project. I don't even know how much exactly, as we also did a lot of building envelope work at the same time (blown-in insulation, new windows, new siding, painted exterior, upgraded electrical & plumbing).

Our goals were to put in a kitchen that matched the character of the woodwork in the rest of our 1912 Craftsman home. While we used modern appliances, we encased them in wood panels whenever possible. We put in soapstone counters and sink and reproduction lighting.

We're delighted with the kitchen and are so looking forward to moving in on Wednesday.

That hood is crazy perfect for your kitchen! I love how you used rich dark materials but balanced them with the white bs. It all appears to fit in with your house as if it always belonged. Don't know what they were thinking with the previous kitchen....
Now, you must post again when you get those leaded glass doors done ;)

Great job restoring the kitchen to the proper style. That hood is a work of art!

WOW! I've been scanning your blog and that's a wonderful renovation.

Oh my gosh, your house is to die for. I love the kitchen (really nice job!), but holy moley, I nearly fainted when looking at the exterior. It's beautiful. I'm bookmarking your site and heading back there to check out the rest.

.... I'm re-reading this and realize I sound like a "sock puppet" for a blog.... wouldn't do that, I'm just crazy for craftsmen homes. Yours is one of the most beautiful I've seen. Wow.

It looks great. What color is the grout on the subway tiles?

Thanks all for the compliments. =)

The subway tile is grouted with dark gray grout. We were hoping it would show less dirt over the years.

    Thanks all,
    Sharon

What a wonderful job, and I also love that commanding hood. You know, you're going to have some visitors asking if it's the original kitchen. :)

Just gorgeous! I call my project craftsman with modern influences, but yours is definitely a Craftsman! That is an amazing hood, and fits perfectly with the rest of the kitchen. Congrats!
