WOW... new Soapstone I've never seen before.

For kicks and grins I went onto M. Texeria's site to view their slabs. I had pretty much nixed the idea ofhttp://www.soapstones.com/images/stone_collection/Monsoonwave.jpg ss cause I love light stones. But i keep coming back to it. The ones I like most are very busy but they tend to be too soft for me. So then I see this:

I called them to ask about the softness and they said it's one of the their harder stones... they just got them in. I ordered a sample. I don't yet know if it will go with my industrial/contemporary/throw in the kitchen sink vibe or not. I don't know how it would look with marble on the bakers table and flecky QS oak IKEA cabs... but GOSH DARN it sure it PURDY!!!!

I always always always am drawn to stones that have rivers of movement. OH.. it's called Moonsoon Wave

Wow is right. It actually looks a lot like the Brazilian Duros I'm engaged to (just a little more variation and movement than my particular slabs.) I was at M Texeira (NJ) a few weeks ago and they had nothing like it.

Interesting too, I think that the more movement ...rivers, as you call them... and the increased hardness are "coincident". In other words, it has more movement than most soapstone because it has less talc and more of some other element. And that's also why it is harder.
Same thing with my Duros...wonder if they're from the same quarry?

I dunno... I acutally had learned the opposite. The more white, the more talc, there fore the softer the stone. I'm glad I'm wrong int this case cause I think it's beautifiul. The other MAJOR upside; is if I did do ss; I could have the fabulous Joshua and Mimi take care of my installation and know it would be perfect.

Bumping cause I'd love Joshua to see this and tell me what he thinks/knows about this newer soapstone. Shoulda thought about that when i posted the subject line... OH WELL!
