We are done!!

I have some outstanding questions I will post soon, but figured I had better get this up before it is the holidays!

We began demo on June 26th - the monday after school ended. I had high hopes we should be done in August (contracter said June), but it was not until early October that I finally gave him the last payment. While I wasn't thrilled (to say the least) with the timeframe, the work seems to be of good quality. I would never have gotten through this without GW as I had to fire the KD once it was clear she didn't agree with me shopping around. I give her all the credit for her vision to move the Laundry room and allow the kitchen to follow the outer line of the house with windows. Essentially, we used the footprint of the laundry, dining and kitchen to create a larger kitchen and laundry.

Whew. Here's the good stuff.

Cabinets - Bertch Legacy cabinets, Door style St. Thomas, color Fawn with brown glaze. Hutch parchment heritage finish in matte. Wall cabinets 39" high.

Hardware - knobs and pulls come with cabinets

Granite perimeter Creama Bordeaux (2 slabs), Island Bossa Nova (1 slab)

Sink Brita single bowl sink (BR-3118) 27 " x 16", Depth 9"

Window (new- Marvin windows and doors) 3 window set (20 13/64 x 48)with window cranks on left and right window

Refrigerator Kitchenaid SS cabinet depth Architect II with water/ice dispenser

Range GE Caf SS 30" Gas range with convection

Hood Zephyer 30"wall mount chimney Savona Hood, 685 CFM

Dishwasher Kitchenaid fully integrated

Price Pfister Hanover faucet and soap dispenser

Lighting - Lighting Direct

We are in the DC suburbs and spent approximately 75k on this project.

Love your new kitchen, especially the shape of the island, the built-in hutch, and those pendant lights. A vast improvement over your old kitchen and money well-spent.

LOVE everything about your new kitchen.
And to make you feel better, I think we started about 1 week earlier than you (and the little ones were still in school so that was a pain) and just ended a few weeks ago (minus the BS which will take us awhile).....

Beautiful! Can I ask the name of those pendants and who makes them?

what a great improvement over you old kitchen. Love your granite and the movement. Your cabinets go well with it. Enjoy.

Very nice! I will comment on the pendants, too. They are very unusual but also fit in very well. Well done!

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!!! Loving your choice of granite. Your kitchen just looks so warm and inviting ... great job :)

Very pretty! I especially love your granite! Congratulations!

It all works together so nicely. I'm glad you got your kitchen YOUR way with the KD. The island shape is fantastic. What are the dimensions? I also like your pendants. I've never seen those.

    Congratulations!

Love all that light!! Much better design than before. Everything ties together nicely-granites, floor, backsplash, etc. Enjoy!!!

    Hi allie..

Beautiful kitchen...I especially love the pendants and how them mimic the island chairs...and the kitchen window is really nice!

    KA:)

Pretty! It looks like opening up made a great improvement.

That was a fantastic call to give the windows to the kitchen instead of the laundry! A vast improvement!

Love that little command center next to your stairs.

Quality is more important than speed. Our house took many months longer than I expected, but that memory quickly fades and your few months will seem nothing in short order. Enjoy your fantastic new space!

Another fan of your island granite and pendant lights here--congrats on being done!

Love your new kitchen! You didn't list the floor tile, and it look great. My kitchen (in progress) will have a similar island shape - tough finding a slab large enough to do in one piece.

How beautiful! I love it all but especially those unique pendants and that gorgeous waviness in the island top! Well done!!!!!

Wow it looks great! I have been struggling to find a granite, that Bossa Nova is very nice. Your backsplash design over the range is great and goes so well with those pendants. Those pendants are just beautiful!

Your kitchen looks wonderful- I love that huge island! We picked a similar stone and I wasn't sure about it until I saw previous pictures that you had posted. Just beautiful!!

Great transformation! Your granite looks wonderful and infinitely interesting ;)

Beautiful transformation! The granite on your island is a work of art.

It looks fantastic!! And I love those pendants. Enjoy that huge island.

Beautiful! We are also planning to use the GE Cafe fridge and range and a zephyr (under cabinet "tempest") hood - I am curious how you like your appliances?

Wow, what a difference! So warm, rich, open and spacious! Very beautiful! Love your window over the sink!

Your island granite is especially gorgeous! I like your pendants--they go so perfectly in your space.

    Congratulations and ENJOY!

I love it all! Is your hood relatively quiet? Also, would you mind telling me what the floor is.

Beautiful!! I love the granite on your island. I might have to consider that for my bathroom. Enjoy your new kitchen!!

You must be thrilled with the new layout. The island counter is a stunner, and the backsplash behind the stove a lovely feature. Congratulations.

When I look at your old kitchen I feel like I'm staring at my own, with the eating area reversed. Sigh..... a few years off yet. You "new" is absolutely beautiful!! I particularly like the built-in hutch cabinets--gorgeous, and the pantry. But I don't quite understand what you gave up to enlarge the space. I'll have to go back and read the top post when I have a little more time, as I've got company coming tonight and shouldn't be here.

Allie, it looks so nice, beautifully done. I like your tilework over the range and your granite so soft looking and flowy, like it.

thanks everyone, As we host more dinners I am coming to the point of just loving it and having all the frustrations and decisions fade in my memory. It is true, there are things that are "wrong" that you just won't notice once you aren't staring at them.

To answer a few questions -

the floor is Ascot, color Fossil sized 20, 13 and 6.

I do like the Zephyer hood. We had an issue in that the 3rd speed wasn't working, but the appliance place was great and turned out a connection just wasn't completed.

the pendants are from the Nanti collection called the iron oxide mini pendant light. they were 129 at lamps plus.

sjerin - we used space from the laundry and dining room to build a larger kitchen with a small laundry. I am using the end of a bowling alley living room to house the dining table now. These old houses have the formal spaces, but no one really seems to use them anymore, so we decided it was a trade off we could accept.

Congrats! Looks beautiful LOVE your pendants!!
