Need dining room help

I have purchased a dining room I love And now I wonder if it is just too dark of a tone. It is a Java color and now the room seems bleak and dark. How can I brighten The dining area?

The dining room set is lovely! Do you have photos of the room itself? Not knowing the wall color or lighting, my guess would be a bright rug, a lighter or brighter paint and a chandelier that sparkles. If you have a buffet, lamps on that and a pretty mirror to reflect the lighting.

Thanks for your great comments! Here are a couple of pictures of the room

Your espresso dining furniture is lovely. I'd like to see some pattern in your room to make it seem less stark. If you have a window in the room, print drapery panels would add interest or if you are more adventurous you might consider a wallpaper like this attractive inspiration room. Also notice the layering of light with recessed lighting, a chandelier, and a mirror to reflect that light.

Find a great area rug you love and pick a color from it for your walls. With no window in your room you need to think light or bright. Here are a few area rugs for inspiration:

Add a bright rug underneath and some lighter accessories on top. Can you add new lighting? Increasing the size of the chandelier above the table will add a lot of needed light to the space.

If possible, you should add recessed lighting. Also, ask your electrician if you have the brightest bulbs available for your chandelier. I'm not sure what your budget is, but painting the walls a bright color and adding metallic wallpaper to the ceiling to reflect the light from the chandelier would do wonders. I also agree with the idea of an area rug that is bright and light to show off the dark dining set. Good luck!

I am skeptical to use an area rug only because there is carpeting already on the floor. Also the room that is adjacent has a small area rug already. Will that make the Room look too cluttered if I have area rugs that close together? I am attaching a photo of the adjacent room. Please let me know what you think. Thanks for all the great comments!

I saw that there was an area rug in the next room. It's ok to put an area rug over carpet, I would make sure the dining room area rug has a color in it that matches the rug in the living room, in your case, white.

Hi---I think paint would be your best option. It will brighten up the space and coordinate with your adjacent room. I do not think a rug will make a huge difference here, but you could use some bling---crystal or a beveled mirror, something and a painting. 2 matching lamps for the buffet... Wall Color: Littleton by True Value... Also check SW 6402 Antiquity and SW 6416 Sassy Green. The Littleton is in the attached pic, but the room does have some light coming in so the color looks brighter than it is. The Antiquity and Sassy Green are a bit brighter, but are the same color as the Littleton. Hope this is helpful. Good Luck!

You can put a colorful table runner on the table:

and a nice bright centerpiece in the middle of the table will really make a difference.
I also agree with suggestions on painting the walls a brighter color.

Your furniture is a great starting point. It's like "the little black dress" - what's missing are the accessories. I agree with the comments suggesting pattern and texture. That will help make your room more interesting. I'm not a fan of putting carpet on carpet so I would suggest focusing on the walls. Self-enclosed dining
rooms are perfect rooms to wallpaper. If you're anxious about doing the whole room then you could do one wall as an accent wall. If wallpaper isn't an option then look for a rich paint colour for your walls. Search dining rooms on Houzz and you will be inspired by the many options you have. Remember to think big and bold for art and accessories. That is what helps make a statement in a room. Have fun!
