It is more special to take perfectly wonderful cabinets and update them with paint and door handles. I can afford to redecorate like that, but I can not afford all the demolition and wastefulness of wonderful old kitchens that is going on today. I wish more people would redo their kitchen like you did. It is beautiful.

Looks great! We are currently doing something very similar. Do you mind sharing the what microwave you used? Is this the GE Profile? We are considering building ours in to the cabinet and trimming it out to match the stiles on the cabinet doors to give it a built in look. Love your whole kitchen!

@Vanguard development LA- It's not a counter top microwave it's a toaster. The microwave is built into the wall in between the cabinets next to the refrigerator. You can see it in one of the pictures.

stacey6180- it is a GE profile. It looks a lot smaller than it is, but it's full sized. My husband installed it....it's the only one that would fit the space, but it's not too small at all. Good luck with your kitchen!

I'm disabled, and trying to do a few projects.....ya right!! Not the sharpest tool in the shed, am I!! Disabled, divorced (he walked out the night before my first brain/spine surgery..which was 34 surgeries ago ) woman, who has NO CLUE how to remodel?! But am doing the best I can. Hi kristencj65- Yes we think it was Advance paint, but if you go to a Benjamin Moore store they will tell you the exact type of paint you need when you tell them about your project. The name of the countertops varies based on where you live, every granite store named it a different name. Here in VA they call it White Fantasy/Super White quartzite/granite. It cost about $7K , our kitchen has a lot of counter space including our separate wet bar area, but it's also a higher end granite/quartzite. Hi j_sorensen, Thank you. We love the kitchen as well :) Yeah we struggled with the same backsplash issue. We didn't want it to look too busy and compete with the countertops. We picked Collonade Gray from Sherwin Williams for the walls. We love the color so much we painted our hallway with it as well. Good luck! Would love to see your kitchen once it's finished! :)

Very clean look with this white kitchen remodel we did.

I love the way your kitchen turned and I am planning the same for my kitchen. I have a lot of the same color oak throughout my house (trim, stairs, fireplace, ect) and it is all open to the kitchen. Do you think it would look funny just to paint the cabinets white? I really do not want to paint the trim white, I have five rambunctious children. I don't want any more upkeep. For those others who have painted your cabinets, do you have problems with nicks in the paint?

My suggestion to you ed323232 is to wait to paint them white until your kids are older if you're worried about chipping, especially if you have small children who will run into them with toys, etc. If chips don't bother you, then do it and just do touch ups. I would paint both the cabinets and base white, I would not only paint the doors. That might look a little strange and your cabinets will stick out like a sore thumb and make your kitchen look smaller. Making your cabinets uniform by painting them all white or keeping them all wood looks best in my opinion. Good luck!

Ed323232? If you just did your kitchen cabinets and not all the trim , stairs, et al, think it would look fine. ( think rahill12 misread your comment?) Be usre to show us before and after pics! Also make sure you put a good clear coat on after you paint them, to help with longitivity.:) good luck!

swilliams3432, you can see the grain if you really look hard, so it's not very noticeable and no it doesn't bother me at all (and I thought it would). After painting the cabinets I realized that solid wood cabinets are worth keeping and painting due to their quality and the cost savings. I would choose them over "fake" wood cabinets. Unless you're getting really high end custom white cabinets (cost not being an issue) then I think it's worth keeping what you have if you like the style, but don't like the color. I can't believe the difference it made in our kitchen!
