we're installing new carriage style doors with black hardware and we're leaning toward doing the doors in almond? Is there a better color, will this be too much of that color on the house?

Existing color is a SAAAD COLOR. makes me want to cry/yawn

I would go with white, classy black or wood color. or whatever the trim color is.

thanks for advice, i read so many conflicting things about not having your garage door match the front door and doing one's best to not have the garage doors stand out too much. in our case, since both doors are in the front of the house, that's a tall order. the new doors would have windows at the top...amarr cortona syle with almond color and bland hardware..but we have time to change it to two tone or another color or wood look. My front door is mahogany.

thanks, looks like almond is "winning"..the front door, which you cant see in the pic is a beautiful mahogany but probably impossible to perfectly match anyways. i see a lot of two-toned carriage style doors out there too so i was just wondering...but i guess matching the trim and windows works fine...just trying to "tone down" the garage so one focuses on the house itself, while the new doors will be much better than the 25 year old builder ones.

Amarr does a pretty decent "mahogany" look door that won't compete for as much attention as a lighter color.

And do you then say that having a mahoghany front door and garage doors that are mahogany is not a design flaw as some sites seem to indicate?

Having a mahogany door and almond garage doors is the best way to go because then the front door stands out as different.

Black window mullions, black garage, and a red door would look fantastic!

Not sure where you're getting that, findjcr. And I don't think your garage will be mistaken for your front door if they're in a similar (cohesive) finish...? I just don't think that garage doors should "speak louder" than the front door.

Hi, you have a beautiful home. I think that you already have a lot of windows so I would suggest almond but without windows to make them blend and not standout.

Thanks all. Still looking for more input. Seems divided between the almond and mahoghany. those favoring mahoghany believe it will be better balanced and not call as much attention as almond, ie you don't want too much attention drawn to the garage with that much almond.

Others feel that almond gives the home more "cohesion" so i guess this debate rests on cohesion versus toning down the garage and its notice factor.

What do others say?

Just to clarify findjcr, it's the mahogany that I think makes your home look cohesive, stately, and customized.
It's the lighter color that, to my eye anyway, says "Here's the garage!"

I'm sure your home looks weird to you with the left side warped; I wanted to extend the brick a bit for a balanced look at your façade -- and I love that center window by the way. I hope it will help you decide which looks best to you, as it's your opinion that matters most. Good luck, and I hope you'll post an "after" pic.

Thanks again. You've caused me to rethink this mahoghany. Although when i visit amarr's site, their mahoghany looks much darker than this pic--and my front door is darker than this illustration too...its mahoghany from Provia- chestnut / mahoghany

I think Barnhart Gallery's example says it all. The mahogany is much richer looking than the almond and looks beautiful with your brick.

findjcr, I agree the mahogany garage doors are really nice, but they present more of a focal point to my eye than the almond.

Definitely go with a wood door for a rich and warm feeling. Almond highlights the door in not a good way.

Not a single garage in my 450 home subdiv is carriage with wood look, all are single color or two toned. I worry much more about the mahoghany look drawing even more attention and not matching the front door mahoghany anyway. Too far out in front of trend for us , so we're going with the crowd on this one...:)
Thanks for all the input, it's going to look a LOT better than the existing builder grade 25 yr old standard doors, that's for sure, not to mention, they'll actually work, be safer, etc.
