Do you need a home office , or maybe put your TV in this area, reading room?

I would do an art, craft, music room. Use a great floor canvas that can be wiped off but look sgreat with a dining table and chairs. I did the same thing and love it!

I have a tv room & office already. I'm not very crafty. I was thinking of a reading room but not sure how that would look

I particularly love the idea of dining rooms/library/reading room. they are cozy and gorgeous and convert to full dining in no time.

A floor canvas is like a rug but flat canvas you paint yourself. Nancy - this appears to be the main entry space, so why not a "fancy" foyer / mudroom? you can use to sort mail and put keys and things you need to out and in with - maybe a banquette under the front window (or great reading chairs) and build in something perfect for your dogs at the end of that so you don't have crates and beds in the narrow hall . . it could be very functional for the real needs you have day to day and still work great at holidays. A floor plan would help us help you more . .

We call our DR a " flex" room....like you, only need it for Thanksgiving or the occasional party. We have an extendable table ( leaves built in) but rest is furnished like a sunroom...rattan furniture because it's easy to move around.

For yours, I'd go with the other posts and maybe a library/reading area. But only if you'd really use it.

The room is 11'4" x 16'9". I use the side door, which you can sort of see, for the most part. The front door is just for guests.

With the right library table, you already have your Thanksgiving dining room ready to go.

A great luxe fabric . . maybe one of the velvets .. . a beautiful round table, a neat secretary . . two terrific wing chairs that become the head and foot at . turkey time .. that will give you a place to sit with a laptop and tea in the am, read, function like an entry 99% of the time . .

Organizers in the shelves will take care of paper clutter if you have the discipline to make a file system work.

I think the key to a library/dining/reading table is that your table must be gorgeous, extendable really works there, and your 2 head chairs must be a crossover to club chair, so that they function as reading spots.
for the other chairs stackables of if you have lots of other chairs in the house use those. if you use bookcases to flank windows you have your reading nook there. you could use a daybed, paint all in the same color, and you have the look of built ins and a reading nook.

Use a also with the right crate, the ones that have wood on top and are dressy like a table you can just leave them there and use them as a side table. the right chandelier will make a difference.

How about adding an entryway with a closet. Closet would separate the entry from the remaining part of the room. Then use the remaining part of the room for an office.

Wow! Great ideas!!! I love the club chairs as dining room chairs but not sure what that looks like. The Ballard shop is much more in my price point-I'm going to check that site out.

You could make the half wall more attractive and get extra storage by adding cabinetry and add a sill so you can put a nice bowl, etc on the top. I would add a bench seat under the window, a harvest table and comy chairs. With lots of pillows on bench it would be a great place to lie down to read, so can be a multifunctional room..
