Planting bulbs

Hi,

I live in Dublin, CA (zone 9, I suppose) I literally just picked up some mixed tulips, hyacinths and crocus and they are currently chilling in the fridge. I want to do lasagna style potting. I plan on placing the container at the entrance to the house and will be West facing and therefore gets some good sunlight during the later half of the day. My question is, if I plant the bulbs now (the cold has started setting in now), can I leave the container west facing until spring or do I need to keep it in a cold dark place for chilling? The pot I intend to use is a big pot that is difficult to move once it is filled with soil.

Also, how do I do the "no-soil" potting of the hyacinth bulbs for indoor use? How much sun do these require?

Thanks,
A
