Yes, you sure do need color! Take the yellow from the family portrait and get some solid but textured pillows for the couches and chairs. Put stationary drapery panels on the sides of your picture windows if you don't need the privacy. Here are some ideas for draperies from various vendors. If you see any you like I can let you know where to find them. The yellow will add a touch of waarmth to all that cold, steel gray.

The last one brings another warm color to the room.

What you have is very nice! You are missing a table between the two chairs, a coffee table in front of the sofa, and a large piece of art to the right of the glass doors. Decide if you want to stay with the gray, black, and white scheme or if you want to add color. You can make it work either way!

So I actually have a gorgeous art piece that goes by the doors, but my mother-in-law accidentally caused it to fall off the wall and broke the frame. It is a big 4X4 black and white abstract mosaic. I don't like the idea of replacing the rug as it was so expensive!! Would it work to add textures to the curtains?? And yeah, I think I want to commit to sticking with the monochromatic design. Should I bring in a fabric coffee table or wood??

If not replacing the rug, then play up pattern in the curtain panels. Maybe a geometric with grays and the teal color in your throw. Coffee table large, maybe metal and wood.

Your rug actually adds texture to the room. Your mosaic adds pattern? I would be prone to get the coffee table first. If you choose a patterned fabric, then the curtains should be solid, maybe with texture. If the coffee table is wood, metal, or solid colored fabric, then patterned curtains would add to the room.

To me the rug is bringing the room down. Consider replacing it with a simple jute or light woven rug for contrast.
