My mother has this and it was described as quartzite. She has it in a bathroom. Hopefully others will chime in but my understanding is that quartzite is pretty much as durable as granite and should be fine for a kitchen.

BE CAREFUL WITH QUARTZITE. Some of the slabs marketed as quartzite are not pure quartzite and can even be marble. Marble and impure quartzite slabs etch easily. We are having to replace our quartzite island top because it has not proven to be durable AT ALL in spite of it's beauty. It's a shame and we're disappointed but it simply etches and scratches too easily to be used in our kitchen. We are replacing it with honed granite.

Fantasy Brown is a marble. It is not granite or quartzite.
