Typically the tile-setter leaves space in between the tiles and the shelf is literally tiled in - supported by the ledge of the tile.

Looks very nice. I want to have something like this, but the tiles are already set, so there's no way to tile in the glass shelf. Any other methods to achieve this besides tiling in the shelf? Maybe epoxy glue?

You could use silicone sealant and caulk it in. Might hold for a long time, but be warned up front that caulk and/or epoxy will fail eventually, potentially resulting in a broken shelf. Good idea to use tempered glass!!!
