A mosaic tile would look very pretty.

I'm thinking of something like this, but in bigger tiles, like standard subway tile size.

Lookin' good! In your small kitchen how about a longer and narrower subway tile in a stacked design? A brick pattern may look busier. Plus, a more linear look will give the illusion of a longer counter. Also the stacked install will be a more contemporary look, Both will work if you love it. Just food for thought! This layout in your color selection. A reflective glass is a good idea...

Thank you Darzy - I can go with that too. Do you then think it's better to stick with one color all the way through (say a pale green), or can mix in two? I was thinking two colors (like sage and stainless steel) to give some interest to the kitchen.

I don't think there is enough backsplash space to give an accent without looking like "too much". A very pretty tile will be enough interest. I like your idea of a one color pale green glass subway.

For interest, you could paint the window wall a fun bold color (and do a couple accessories in your accent color too). That way, you could always change the wall color any time in the future if you want. Accent tiles can (not always) look dated quickly.

Thank you! ( re the double-cooking area, I had to laugh! My hubby won't cook anything more than a pot of pasta! It's actually both for a kosher kitchen where meat and dairy foods are kept separate so this makes it much more convenient, as well as cooking for kids with food allergies while keeping their food separate. I'm actually the one "cooking as two" lol)

for this space I would choose a small mosaic...skip the stainless steel tiles unless you like to change out things frequently. They are trendy right now but not timeless. Or I would use glass subway tiles and use a small mosaic, say cut the sheet in rows 4 or 5 deep, as an accent to add interest and texture.

Oh! I forgot about the kosher kitchen needs! Even better, as I was thinking they should have reversed the sink/stove on the opposite sides so butts don't meet at the stove or sink. So, it's a perfect kosher kitchen.

Took me a while, got distracted by other projects. No end. Below is a mosaic I found in Lowes. What do you think? I like it, but I think I would like bigger tiles. The size of the stainless steel ones are better. I will look for bigger glass tiles, but wanted to run this mosaic by the "houzz experts" for opinions :)

Anyone have any opinions on cleaning mosaic backspashes? Isn't it easier to clean bigger tiles - less grout?

I love the mosaic you found. A mosaic was my first recommendation to you in an earlier post. However, we used that exact stainless steel backsplash in our game room bar area, and I love it. We have it with a black leathered granite. See pic below, but our bar area isn't finished. I think the mosaic looks great with your counters. As far as cleaning, I think the mosaic would be easier. The stainless would show more just as stainless appliances show more. Our area is low use so it's not a problem for us. Good luck and keep us posted.
