Spa Capacitor question

My spa is wired for 220v. The pump motor is rated for 220. The capacitor, which has failed, is rated for 110/125. I have ordered an exact replacement, but am wondering if I really need something rated for 220v? Thanks for any advice!

Contact the manufacturer with model #. You may be right.

If the capacitor is attached between two hots, it has to be higher than if it is attached between a hot and ground or neutral.

Ionized is right...it depends on exactly where it is in the circuit. If it's a motor start capacitor, usually that's connected to a separate winding inside the motor that just helps to get it started. That winding may actually run off only one leg (120V) of the power supply.

It wouldn't hurt to contact the manufacturer to make sure. Or just use one rated for 240V or higher. Even if it is only a 120V line there, a cap with higher voltage rating will not hurt anything. It's only a problem if it's rated too low.
