Living room layout assistance

We are struggling with how to layout our living room. Please ignore worlds ugliest sectional; our children have destroyed it enough that we are now on market for new furniture/rug.
Couple couches in middle of room? Not sure if couch should be against wall. Access to room on either side makes layout difficult...don't want to disrupt traffic flow.
Thoughts?

It looks too long, or awkwardly shaped for one thing. And the color makes it cave-like, but you know that already. Can you build a partial wall with an archway to separate the part with the 3 windows, and make it a cozy den/study. I think the dimensions of the rest of the room would be easier to work with, but it's hard to tell from the photos

My thoughts exactly... It would be easier if there was a wall there and that could be achieved relatively easily.

Agreed. The color is a muted dark grey of sorts and it does look rather drab at night, but no plans to paint at this point. Any tips for brightening the space?

I would definitely do 2 separate areas, even if you can't put up a wall. Maybe one for the adults in front of the fireplace and a great cozy area for the kids in the back with fun bean bag seating, low book shelves, and a soft textured area rug??
