I would close up the door opening so you can't go into the kitchen from the foyer. It will separate your kitchen from the foyer.

I agree with vjs- you will also gain a nicer foyer and it's the most simple- probably least expensive fix. A little bit of separation/ walls can go a long way.

Yeah that's one of our ideas. Another was to take out the right wall and put a post with trim. But we do like the idea of having some separation. We will be adding hardwood and paint as soon as wall is done. We think after that it will help make space not so obvious. Thanks for the thoughts
