Get blinds for the windows that you can open and close and adjust as they day goes on and then pretty side panels in a fabric to add color to the area. Have the blinds match the window trim.

I know the feeling. How about those tall skinny evergreens? (can't remember the name) We used them to cover our neighbors ugly fence.

Yes, agree with 2tilletts, a photo would be helpful. In the meantime, have you looked at screen panels? The selections are fabulous. Or you can make your own with a frame and fabric, such a drapery or even sheer drapery fabric. It will give you more color to play with in your decor; create or purchase as many panels as you need; and even place seating or some other piece of furniture in front of it. White or off white sheers let the light in. At night when sheers are closed and you have a light on in the room anyone on the outside or neighbors cannot see inside your home.

I would definitely grow a climbing flower on that wall such as clematis or trumpet vine (hummingbirds love red or pink trumpet vines). Inside your living room, I would install sheers on a decorative rod - 4x fullness. The sunlight will still come in but you won't see your neighbour's home.

Oh my goodness, that's a challenge for sure! Sometimes, you can do something outside rather than inside. Depending how much property you have on that side, one of these privacy trellis/fence might do the trick.

See the link, I like the first three photos and the sixth, the Orange Clock vine. It might be better to have something growing that is not on your house walls, but on a trellis fence away from your house, so you can see it.

I have seen a room with plants inside the house done up like a garden, 3 different heights, 3 to 5 different plants/trees. Blocks the view and creates a pleasant garden inside.

Emerald cedar hedging is great because it will deal well with moderate sun conditions. Other hedges to consider would be Beech, or Hornbeam. Vines are great, but some can be really aggressive, deteriorate brick, and could be a little unsightly in the future and during winter.

They are available in almost 500 prints and colors, so you can also dress up the windows. Another option are vertical blinds - not the ones we are use to...the new generation.
